  3. Welcome Cool Hand Luke! We love those River Ridge guys.

  4. hmmm…sounds like a pretty solid lineman for the future…almost 6′5″ ….he must have good footwork for Petrino to go after him. I reviewed the present set of O Linemen..and don’t see the need for another one…but I am just a layman/fan. Welcome aboard Luke.

  5. Looks like he just needs to muscle-up a little.

  6. Every kid who comes to Arkansas will be in the best condition and the strongest they will ever be in their entire life when they leave college. :P :P :P

  7. Nice pickup!
The kid goes to a school with a LONG history of SUCCESSFUL football with many victories/titles.

All of us from here in La. are fimiliar with JohnCurtis HS, they are very strong every year. (similar to Evangel & W.Monroe)

Go Hogs, beat Larry Blakeney’s comments!

  9. Congrats to Luke! I did noticed his offer list was limited mostly to much smaller programs.

  11. In Dawson’s article, he notes that Charpentier was also receiving interest from LSU, Alabama, and Miss. State. Does this mean they were going to offer him? Who knows–maybe they were reviewing his progress or some physical growth between his jr/sr seasons, maybe he just hit their radar with an extraodinary season, or perhaps they’re just trying to decide how many o-linemen they need. Either way, he clearly is regarded as a kid with high potential by SEC teams.

And after spending 7 years in LA and still following HS football there, I echo Portie’s comment–every football fan there knows John Curtis, and their name is synonymous with “winning football”. I like getting kids from high-quality programs like that; he should already be well-schooled yet still teachable. Good size and speed, good background = high upside and little to no downside.

    Welcome to Arkansas, Luke!

  12. Prototype SEC OL. I like him. Another great point is that he comes from a program that does the little things to win. He ought to be very coachable.

    Any news on Byran Jones?

    By Bigfoot on Nov 11, 2009 @ 9:18am

  13. Question: Has Berna had his shoulder surgery and how is his rehab progressing?

    By Bigfoot on Nov 11, 2009 @ 9:20am

  14. Did anyone ever say how Calvin Barnett’s visit went? If we landed him and Byran Jones, I would consider this class a success.

I would like to get either Brown back on board. I wonder what Orr’s situation with FSU is with the running out of Bowden and their DC retiring. Beachum needs to avoid Michigan like the plague. It appears Rich Rod is about to be burned at the stake.

Marcus Lucas would make this class really stand out.

  15. Calvin Barnett did not make it to the game.

  17. Hey guys I was reading an article on ESPN discussing the suspensions handed down to our basketball team. It refered to Brandon Mitchell as a FORMER football player who was now with the basketball team. Does anyone have any information about this? I would be disappointed if he was no longer with the football team. I had heard he was doing well in practice and had a cannon for an arm.

    By Ethan on Nov 11, 2009 @ 11:29am

  18. They wanted to make it look like Petrino has players quitting on him.

    By Daniel M. on Nov 11, 2009 @ 11:31am

  19. Brandon Mitchell is a redshirting this season for the football team, because he under went hernia surgery at the beginning of football season, according to Coach Pelphrey from his press conference after the first exhibition game. Coach Pelphrey got permission from Coach Petrino for Brandon to play bb this season. He was only cleared by his doctor right before the first bb exhibition game and then he played a few minutes in the second exhibition game, but according to Coach Pelphrey in his press conferences Brandon will play basketball this season, but will play football next season for Coach Petrino.

  20. Luke Cothron has decided NOT to sign with NC State today. Obviously he’s having second thoughts. Could those thoughts be about playing for the Hogs?

    By MRPRFCT on Nov 11, 2009 @ 12:43pm

  21. Thank you for the clarification NE ARk Fan!

    By Ethan on Nov 11, 2009 @ 1:16pm

  22. Mardracus Wade and Rickey Scott have signed. Still waiting on Marvell Waithe and a player to be named later ! :P

By Ron in Germany on Nov 11, 2009 @ 2:40pm

  23. Perhaps Luke Cothron ? I hope ! :P

By Ron in Germany on Nov 11, 2009 @ 2:41pm

  24. i like luke but after seeing the numbers that ratcliffe has been putting up from inside and beyond the arc…oh boy. Let’s just be done with the drama. Hope all is ok in cFort’s world

    By PK on Nov 11, 2009 @ 2:52pm

  25. Ron, where did you hear about the mystery player?

I love signing days. It’s like a secular Christmas

    By Daniel M. on Nov 11, 2009 @ 3:34pm

  26. I second your thoughts PK. It sounds like Courtney is having a heck of a time. I hope he finds what he’s looking for and gets any help he needs.

    By Daniel M. on Nov 11, 2009 @ 3:36pm

  27. Richard,is there still any chance we may get Charpentiers teamate Jonathon Mckight in for a campus visit or game? I would really like to see what this guy can bring to the defensive part of the game and quite possibly the offensive side.

    By HawgwildinMI on Nov 11, 2009 @ 3:38pm

  28. Daniel M, If Beachum likes obserdly cold weather for 6 months out of the year with snow up to his head he will come to Michigan. If he wants to play ball in a place where you can practice almost all year round in a beautiful enviroment with (in my mind more talented players) and catch notice by a certain NFL owner he will stick with the hogs. Go get em Hogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    By HawgwildinMI on Nov 11, 2009 @ 3:44pm

  29. HawgwildinMI, what is the word on Rich Rod up there? I’ve seen a few blurbs on various sites but nothing significant. He should be getting flak for letting Mallett get away.

    By Daniel M. on Nov 11, 2009 @ 3:52pm

  30. People cry to this day over losing Ryan Mallett. Rich-Rod has some supporters, but the alumni are starting to take another look at this guy. Purdue just beat them for the first time since 1966 at the big house. Most of my close personal freinds are split 50/50 on him. Some REALLY dislike like me. From what I understand Lloyd Carr doesnt really care for the guy who moved his belongings out of his office before the Cap. One Bowl against Florida 2 yrs ago, which may be why he has turned down the A.D job after Bill Martin vacates his seat after this year.

    By HawgwildinMI on Nov 11, 2009 @ 3:59pm

  31. dislike him is what I ment to say

    By HawgwildinMI on Nov 11, 2009 @ 4:01pm

  32. There is a very real possibilty Michigan could face some sort of sanctions which is why the NCAA is still investigating. Beachum beware of what you are stepping into if you plan on coming to Michigan, because right now the “little brother,” Michigan State is becoming the better team in Michigan.

    By HawgwildinMI on Nov 11, 2009 @ 4:05pm

  33. Richard,

Could you talk about this 5 star from Virginia that all of a sudden has interest in Arkansas Basketball.

    His last name is Coleman?

Arkansas is listed by him as 1 of 4 he has High interest in and he is a SF/SG

    By BoutDemHogs on Nov 11, 2009 @ 4:14pm

  34. That’s rather amusing about Michigan. I guess Rich Rod brought some bad luck from the nasty divorce with West Virginia.

    By Daniel M. on Nov 11, 2009 @ 4:19pm

  35. Well when you leave a school shredding documents, that WVU is to scared to investigate cause of possible reprucusions to their program and have Michigan players signing questionable docs…. Thats a little odd if you ask me. But hey I know Michigan fans and if he loses these last 2 game to Wisconsin and of all teams Ohio St. they will be calling for his head. These are not very patient fans round this way. Lloyd Carr whom I respect VERY much went 11-0, before losing to OSU just 4 pionts away from a national title and they wanted his head. Granted he did lose to App. State the next year, but went on to beat the defending National Champs in Florida that same year. Thats what you call LOYALTY…I guess.

    By HawgwildinMI on Nov 11, 2009 @ 4:32pm

  36. I would love to see both teams win out so that there is a possibilty we could play Michigan. This is a team that barely beat E. Michigan and from what Ive seen cannot stop the passing game. Arkansas can handle their spread and it would be a big publcity coup especialy in the recruiting scene. WOOOOOOOOOOO PIG SOOOIE!!!!!!

    By HawgwildinMI on Nov 11, 2009 @ 4:38pm

  37. yeah, the Coleman kid…what’s the story with him?

    By joshua on Nov 11, 2009 @ 8:33pm

  38. I’ve seen a couple of different articles on the Coleman kid that say he’s not going to sign early because he’s focussed on trying to get eligible academically. He’ll announce during the regular signing period, but some say he’s on the road to JuCo. Maybe Richard can give more insight.

    By razorpride89 on Nov 11, 2009 @ 9:33pm

  39. This kid will be turned into a beast. If his bench and squat numbers are correct then he will be a beast once he learns his techniques. Good pick up.

    By HOGen-Dazs on Nov 11, 2009 @ 9:33pm

  40. An article on Rivals stated the Coleman kid probably goes the JUCO route.

  42. Thats GREAT we got Mr. Charpentier! But now we dont need O Linemen WE need D LINEMEN! Thats the Hogs #1 need this class, I wanna see Byran Jones commit to us and not see anymore guys decommit like Brown and Orr! Richard can you Please tell me if the hogs are recruiting guys like D.D Jones this year!?

    By Rodney on Nov 12, 2009 @ 11:49am

  43. Is this Luke Charpentier guy anyway related to the former Henderson State quarterback named Roch Charpentier?
