I would love to get D. Fields or Dontae Williams at RB. Hopefully Dontae Williams cuz he looks like he will be a beast. Good luck Mike. Maybe the Auburn fans will be as supportive and loyal to you as HOG fans would have. Never really thought the attitude about the whole situation was great though.

Hope it works out for Dyer. The Razorbacks will be just fine and the series with Auburn should be a good one. It will be interesting to see how long Malzahn stays at Auburn.
By dwp007 on Nov 6, 2009 @ 10:11am
See ya, wouldn’t want to be ya. Too bad, but a guy has gotta do what a guy has gotta do. He’ll be successful as will Arkansas. I know there is more to the story…sure wish I knew what turned him off at UA or what turned Petrino off. I think he had too many people around him and a so-called handler. Auburn better make sure he is clean.
By Ima Hawg on Nov 6, 2009 @ 10:16am
Like a burden lifted. Glad it is official now.
Go Hogs!
By Matt on Nov 6, 2009 @ 10:21am
I think Auburn is a better fit IN THAT we have a set of terrific tall rangy though RBs. He knows BP likes big backs. Ones that can get a head of steam between tackles and bounce to the outside, but also have some reach/length to grab passes over the middle as another receiver. 6-1 or 6-2 can probably do more in the pass game, than 5-9 can. Even though he has many highlights, he will fit into Auburns offense a little better than with the Hogs. He would have nearly the competition, which is what I think is a big reason for his choice. He will probably not be as good at protecting the QB as a Brodrick or Kniles or Ronnie. He will have a nice career as will our RBs will.
By Matt on Nov 6, 2009 @ 10:30am
If he follows through with it, I hope they can find him a job when he gets out of school, because it probably won’t do him any good to try and return ro Arkansas. The people of this state never forget and rarely forgive.
By Hog Fan on Nov 6, 2009 @ 10:47am
I’m worried that Auburn has crossed the state line to take our best prospect. I am concerned about Jones, Mack this year, and Harvill, Fraiser next year. Malzhan has now shown the ability to recruit Arkansas along with Nutt. That’s not a good sign of things to come IMHO.
By Ron in Germany on Nov 6, 2009 @ 10:50am
Best wishes Mike. You’ll do great things in the SEC. Go Hogs!
By Jim on Nov 6, 2009 @ 10:56am
I would like to clarify one thing…my comments are not hateful..they are a combination of irritation, frustration and resignation toward any quality athlete raised in Arkansas that first said he was excited about the Hogs and then became a “player/poser”….I would rather have a Thamail Morgan, Darren McFaden (remember “501 boy” on his arm?)
I just dont believe in chasing posers
By Razorback Roger in Florida on Nov 6, 2009 @ 10:59am
Anybody know how about Walls out of White Hall. Is he getting any “Love” from the HOGS? He would be a perfect fit at running back for a year and then when we fill up again at RB he does so good in the open field we could use him at a receiver.
By OKOFCOURSE on Nov 6, 2009 @ 11:03am
Bigger straighline backs are what this offense lives off of.
i would still take dyer in a heartbeat, but i’m not going to lose an ounce of sleep over this and no razorback fan should either.
and it’s not like this is in stone at all.
he’s still going to take visits, so his commitment is still basically open.
it’s laughable really.

By BoutDemHogs on Nov 6, 2009 @ 11:11am
Good luck to him, but I’m glad he’s going to Auburn (or even TN, we’ll see) I want kids that WANT to be Razorbacks, period. They are the ones that will play their heart out for you.
By Hawk on Nov 6, 2009 @ 11:15am
Auburn is a better choice for Micheal than Arkansas. Arkansas has a good stable of freshman and sophomore running backs and a system that prefers bigger backs. Auburn’s spread offense requires a shifty back with speed and with the wide offensive line gaps better fits Dyer’s running style.
It’s great when Arkansas’ best athletes choose the Razorbacks but an athlete should go to a school that best fits his/her skills and provides the best options for that athlete’s goals.
By MoHog on Nov 6, 2009 @ 11:16am

By im just saying on Nov 6, 2009 @ 11:16am
Better he is not here pouting on the bench davis, wingo, green are the studs dont think he could beat them out.
By jerry on Nov 6, 2009 @ 11:44am
Hope it goes well for him. RE Petrino liking big backs, thats because they don’t know how to coach run blocking. We will never get premier backs again until they do.
By don on Nov 6, 2009 @ 11:48am
Fact is that the Hogs are well stocked at RB and Dyer is scared of the competition! I doubt he will be sorely missed as our current RBs come into their own. Missouri survived the loss of Wingo, and we will survive this. Hope he is successful over there cause the Auburn folks will forget him quickly if not! Bye bye Micheal…
By hogfan1509 on Nov 6, 2009 @ 11:55am
Would have liked him to come to Arkansas, but losing him won’t change our direction. We have some great running backs that are showing more skill every week. I wish Dyer good luck and our defense even better luck when we play Auburn.
By Zonker on Nov 6, 2009 @ 12:05pm
It will be interesting to see how long Malzahn stays at Auburn. Dyer is a good back, but the Razorbacks have plenty of talent with the ongoing development of Wingo and Davis. We need some DEFENSIVE studs.
By dwp007 on Nov 6, 2009 @ 12:07pm
Good luck to young Mr.Dyer.
Now, moving on… I hope we get Darryl Fields or Casey Turner, both look to be solid, strong backs.

I’m concerned because it means a rival has taken this state’s best player. HDN allowed the fence to get knocked down and now there’s no fence around the state.
By MRPRFCT on Nov 6, 2009 @ 12:36pm
I saw a video where Dyer said he was upset that his teammate was not even being spoken to by the Arkansas staff. Apparently, Arkansas scouted the young man and decided not to offer him. Perhaps that upset Dyer. Anyway, I wish him the best. If he continues working hard he will be a great running back. Malzahn is a great coach and I doubt he will still be an assistant at Auburn next year. I hope Mr. Dyer reconsiders and stays home.

Shanep,
We need Shut down Corners too ! 2 Saftey’s, 3 LB’s, 3 DT, 3 DE, 2 OT, 3 OG and a center. A couple WR’s with in the mold of Wright and Adams. 1 great RB and a partridge in a pear tree.
By Ron in Germany on Nov 6, 2009 @ 2:35pm
MRPRFCT, their is no fence around the state. There is no fence around any state for that matter. Ask Missouri if there is a fence around there state (Wingo) or Oklahoma if there is a fence there (Bennet, Gordon) or even Texas if there is a fence (Hamilton). The bottom line is the kid was “all hog” until we decided not to offer his bestfriend.
He had a TV interview where he expressed his concern for Mosley’s lack of an offer. He tried to pressure the staff through the media for it and Petrino called his bluff. Mosley was not offered and Dyer isn’t here. We will be fine. We have two stud RB’s on campus right now (who are younger than Dyer) as well as a stud Sophomore in Green. Dennis Johnson is no slouch at RB either (ask LSU and UF). Deanthony Curtis is our 5th string RB. Thats how talented our group is. We will be fine without Dyer.
By HogInBama on Nov 6, 2009 @ 3:10pm

By Piglett on Nov 6, 2009 @ 4:04pm
I’ll be at the game, sure. Been a Hog fan all my life. I am discouraged though at this year’s recruiting class. I don’t know if it is because the last two were so good or a lack of success this season. But I do know we really need a win over South Carolina and Miss St.
By Ima Hawg on Nov 6, 2009 @ 4:07pm

By tahoehog on Nov 6, 2009 @ 4:31pm
I don’t beleive that not getting Dyer will hurt us on the feild. We have some great young back for years to come. However, I am a big believer in momentum when it comes to recruiting. Good players attract other good players. It doesn’t do much for our momentum (if we had any to start with) to loose one of our biggest prospects to come out of state in a while.
Ultimately we’ll be fine, but this is just another speed bump in this year’s recruiting class…so far not so good. GO HOGS, beat the ol’ ball coach tomorrow!!!
By joshua on Nov 6, 2009 @ 5:04pm
The crowd needs to be into it tomorrow. Holtz was right, when he said something like, most fans go to games to be entertained – Arkansas fans go to help the Razorbacks win.

By MRPRFCT on Nov 6, 2009 @ 9:59pm
Have you seen Dyer play? I saw him play in one game. He ran for a lot of yardage but he did not look fast nor all that tough, and as a friend said (who coached) he is not the best back that I have ever seen. It will be interesting to me to see how he does at AU with good defenses against him. The team he played against the night we saw him was very, very bad on defense and offense. So, that may not have been a good barometer of his abilities, but we expected him to show more that he did in that game. He did not look like a Jones or McFadden or Damien Williams or DJ Williams. Apparently, Arkansas saw something in him.
By Going, Going, Gone! on Nov 6, 2009 @ 10:34pm
last DECENT player that got away and has gone on to GREAT THINGS was DeAngelo Williams…..other than that, I can’t recall (without having to do some real digging) any players in the past decade who chose a team over an Arkansas offer (barring a transfer) and did something fantastic. Am I saying that I hope Dyer doesn’t succeed…not at all. I am just pointing to history for those who think it might be the end of the world.
By JDHogSoooooie on Nov 6, 2009 @ 10:58pm
Cedric Houston had a pretty solid career at Tennessee.
By your mom goes to college on Nov 6, 2009 @ 11:19pm
true, Cedric did, but where is he now. He was a good back for them, but really, anyone else….DeAngelo is the name that comes to mind…he’s in the NFL.
Don’t know any guys who left the state that currently are in the pros. Would welcome anyone that can spot someone I am missing.
By JDHogSoooooie on Nov 6, 2009 @ 11:34pm
JDHog, We lost Ziemba, We lost the Cedric Houston. Yes, DeAngelo Williams. We lost Keith Jackson, Sr. I am sure that there have been many more. I remember a lineman that we lost to Colorado about 15 or 20 years ago. We eventual lost most of the Springdale Mafia. You can add to this brief list.
My hope is that Dyer did this for positive reasons. What I mean by positive is that Auburn has some program that Arkansas doesn’t that will prep him for a life after football.
Having lived in Alabama at one time, this is not the school I would select. There is one supporter there that runs the football program. (Very similar to T. Boone Pickens at OK State.) You will remember the “flight in the night” where the school pres., AD and this supporter flew up to Louisville to recruit BP before they dealt with Tuberville. This was and is second class stuff.
Chizik has got to beat Alabama quickly or he’s gone. Also, Malzahn is going to be on some short lists of a HD job and probably won’t be there long.
Good luck, Mr. Dyer.
By Bigfoot on Nov 6, 2009 @ 11:51pm
I don’t like other teams coming in and taking top players out of the state but truth be told if we are going to be a top level program in state kids aren’t going to be out bread and butter. As long as we can get the talent that we need I don’t care where it comes from. Dyer has struck me as being a little full of himself and maybe he has the skills to back it up but I just hope he realizes that if Gus keeps winning and doing well he won’t be with him at Auburn for very long. It stings a little to lose a top rated in state player but at least he isn’t a need postion for the team.
By DarthHog on Nov 6, 2009 @ 11:53pm
Here’s the facts. The last thing we need on this team is a premadonna at running back. we need DEFENSE. Dyer is a thug and we’re better off without him. I want to see some big time recruits at the DLine and DBack postitions. Go Hogs!!!
By bigdaddy d (also in tennessee) on Nov 7, 2009 @ 1:16am
“fence around the state”?…Hell, the President can’t even build a fence around the country. Might be a little much for a college football coach to build a fence around the state, even if the state is Arkansas, and the coach is Bobby Petrino. I like where the program looks like it’s heading, and I wouldn’t trade 10 Dyer’s for our coaching staff.

Dallas Jackson, Rivals High Senior Analyst:
The No. 1 player in the state of Montana has six schools left on his list.
“It is surreal,” three-star athlete Matt Miller said. “Sometimes I want it to be over and live a normal life, but I always feel very thankful for the opportunities I have.”
Miller and the 10-0 Helena (Mont.) Capital High Bruins are set to make a run at a fourth consecutive state title and while Miller is quick to talk about his team, right now the focus is on him.
“There are a lot of things I have to look at,” Miller said. “Being comfortable at the school, the prestige of the program, and what kind of education you are going to get are all important factors.
“From there you can eliminate some schools and start building relationships with the places that may be the right fit.”
It’s not clear where the 6-4, 205-pounder will play in college – he plays multiple positions at Capital and is listed as an “athlete” in the RivalsHigh recruiting database – but many schools appear interested in trying to figure that out.
Matt Miller
He’s had nearly two dozens offers and admits narrowing it down has been tough.
“I have already been to Oregon State,” Miller said. “I will go to Arizona State next, then Boise State.”
But, he is quick to point out, those schools are not the final three.
“If I need to visit more schools I am still looking at Arkansas, North Carolina and Stanford,” he added.
His coach, Pat Murphy, has high praise for his star player.
“Matt is a great athlete,” Murphy said. “He can run like a deer, he can jump, he really has it all. We play him at safety, wide receiver, really just about anywhere.”
Miller says maybe his best attribute is his time spent on film.
“I am a film junky,” Miller said. “I breakdown film with the coaches at lunch and I have game film at my house that I just put on sometimes too.”
Whether on the field or in the classroom Miller is a hard worker, carrying a 3.7 GPA as a senior and is prepared to go to college and succeed.
“Coach told us that hard work will get you want to go,” Miller said.

Hawk, class is only due to those who have a grasp of the concept. To get respect, you have to give it.
By Gary on Nov 11, 2009 @ 4:37pm
Hawk, dont feel ashamed. I was blasted last year by almost everyone on here for questioning Cobi Hamiltons late talk of going to Texas as being bad character, now Michael Dyer has chosen Auburn and the board goes nuts. Why the double standard?
By HawgwildinMI on Nov 11, 2009 @ 4:44pm
HawgwildinMI,
Two totally different situations altogether.
Texas offered Cobi Hamilton late. You can’t put a young man in question for just talking to a late-offering school in his own state.
By GonzoHog on Nov 11, 2009 @ 5:14pm
Oh I see so he has to make the choice everyone else wants him to make. It should always be your home state right, thats the best choice for him and the razorbacks… not. We’ll be the team BP is posting us up to be with or without Dyer. So lets stop bashing or praising this kid. All he wants is attention. If he does sign with Auburn on Feb.3 so be it. We’ve beaten them 3 of the 4 yrs, in which the last game game Tate ran for 188 yrds and we still won. Ill say it like I did a couple months ago. He will be on the outside looking in when Arkansas is making strides towards the BCS! Best of luck to him (if he even sticks with it). REMINDER: Gus Malzahn is a hot commodity right now and my guess is he will be gone before the SEC exposes his “spread,” as little more than a high school offense. There are Mid-level teams more than willing to pay this guy more than the $300,000 Auburn is currently paying. He could be gone by the end of January in my opinion.
By HawgwildinMI on Nov 11, 2009 @ 5:35pm
If Dyer was so attention starved why did he go ahead and commit. Why didn’t he draw it out like Bryce Brown or Terrell Pryor? He committed before Mack and Jones and yet they’re not getting blasted. Should the university be blasted for not offering Arkansas kids that want to be Razorbacks? All you “adults” just pretend the kids you’re writing about on here are yours. Would you want someone that’s never met your son call him classless?
By MRPRFCT on Nov 11, 2009 @ 5:49pm
Sorry to change the subject guys, but on the hoops front-I just started looking into hoop recruits and noticed the Hogs are in the running for Justin Coleman out of the 2010 class. Since I haven’t kept up with it, can anyone tell me when and where this came from? Also, what’s the latest on Cothron? I read he’s not going to sign w/ North Carolina State in the early signing period-which is making the NCState faithful worry and recruiting services take notice. Thanks!

so DYER is not coming tto be a hog big deal. He is not a back for us .I am happy if he is happy goimg to Auburn. Our focuse is on players who want to wear cardinal & white and run though the big “A” on game day. we are loaded for a couple years at running back our team is on the rise.WE WILL GET MORE BACKS IN THE COMING YEARS WITH WINS.The backfield we have is going to work and the coaches know what they are doing in recruiting. The hogs are the future of the sec everyone knows that. Now lets get us some players we need like o linemen and d linemen to stop the run and d ends to rush the Qb. our db’s will be better in the future with better defenseive line play our team is becoming a monster for sec and we are hear watching it turn into the type team we all dream of. we should all just be happy for this kid but tjhe hogs are going to a championship caliber team soon.
