Defensive end sees Hogs as good fit

November 6, 2009 – 6:00 am

Defensive end Justin Evans was one of the more impressive looking prospects attending the Hogs’ game against Eastern Michigan last weekend.

Evans, 6-4, 225, 4.64 of Haynesville, (La.) is drawing interest from Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech and Baylor.

“They have a nice stadium and like the turf on the field,” said Evans, who reports an offer from Northwestern (La.) “I like the way the guys warmed up, looks like they’re in shape.”

Evans said assistant coaches Bobby Allen and Kirk Botkin welcomed him on his visit.

“They said they want me to put on a little bit more weight, Evans said.

Despite a less than capacity crowd and overmatched opponent, Evans said the visit was better than some others.

“Arkansas is the best one so far,” said Evans, who said he’s visited Louisiana Tech and Georgia. “I feel like I could go there and it fits me. I think I could fit in with the team.”

  2. Are they lookin’ at any of these kids from Magnolia? Our team beat both Haynesville and Little Rock Christian (with their talented running back) this year, with a BIG team and some good talented seniors.

  3. Beachum was our only 4-star commit according to SCOUT. He is now no longer listed as a committ with them. He is a soft verbal now. Perhaps we will just be figting Flordia International, Northwest Southeast Wyoming, Southwest Northeast Montana, SouthNorth WestEast Idaho for the rest of our recruits.

  4. Scout’s rankings are crap. What’s ESPN say about our recruits?

  6. hey everybody, did y’all see the N. Illinois v. Eastern Michigan game last night? Northern Illinois “3s and 4s” looked a lot better than ours on defense. :)

  8. what is going on with “big tex”

Kinda funny that he was so eager to come on board the hawg train… now he wants to go to the cold and barren big 10?

  11. I didn’t find anything on Evans on the big recruiting sites, but –

A team photo, where Evans can be glimpsed is here:

[he's tall kid on the top row in the middle - #71]

His team roster says he is 6′3/215; he may have gained a few lbs since then. I’ve seen him on local tv news-sports highlights for stopping goalline runs. Not sure if he’s SEC caliber tho.

(also, his teammate, Ath/RB DJ Lewis is well known here in NLa. for being shifty and versatile… he’s even rated a 3* player by some)

  12. I’m good buddies with a coach down at Haynesville, and he says that Evans can be totally dominant at some points, but takes plays off and needs to work harder.
