One has him 6′3/210, the other has him 6′2/190. And his position looks to be debatable as well.

  3. Wow, two commits in one day…and Mack has some nice size/potential for growth…if he can keep the speed…I like the size and speed we are getting in our commits

  4. Richard,

I’m curious about Fred Harvey. He picked Texas Tech over the Tide but is now showing interest in being a Razorback (he plans to call about an official visit). Any additional info on his reasons and why we haven’t offered? None of the articles really gave details. Does he have ties to Arkansas or something?

  7. Could someone please remind me about grey shirt? I realize his scholarship will count against 2011, but will he be able to practice and play.

    By tomt58 on Nov 1, 2009 @ 9:48pm

  8. tomt58,

A grey-shirt means that Mack will be considered a walk-on for the fall semester and then will be placed on scholarship in the spring, going against the 2011 total-as you pointed out. Able to practice and play fully.

  9. Welcome aboard, Mr. Mack.

    By dwp007 on Nov 2, 2009 @ 7:52am

  10. Why did he have to grey shirt?

    By Razorhog on Nov 2, 2009 @ 9:34am

  11. i guess thats the only way they offered him..

    By shanep on Nov 2, 2009 @ 9:59am

  12. Well they already have offers and have been actively recruiting LBs and Defensive players before they saw him I think. His teammate Wade had been seen and offered but Mack had not. They do like him and want him to come to campus but it is a little late in the game for him to get a 2010 offer so they went with the gray shirt option. He still reports like all the other incoming Freshman and practices and goes to school and enrolls. He will then get a scholarship in the Spring towards the 2011 class.

  13. Richard,

Have Dyer and Mosely boarded the S.S. Malzahn for a fateful trip?

Are the passengers aware Captain Malzahn only intends his stay to be a three hour tour?

They should be on full alert that they could wind up stuck on Chizik’s Island.

  14. LOL, good stuff Daniel.

  15. My interpretation of this offer is that BP and staff already have a good idea of who the remaining commits will be and don’t have space for him (or another LB) in this class.

Another, though way less desireable possibility, it that he is a marginal qualifier and they will not know that he qualifies until very late in the process. You do remember that we now have the “Nutt” cap on the number on offered commits. The gray shirt will get him out from under that cap.

    By Bigfoot on Nov 2, 2009 @ 6:02pm

  16. Smart move by the coaches. They’re being very careful with their remaining commitments.
    I hope Bryan commits soon.

  17. Portie,

If I were a betting man, i’d say Mack was closer to the size Rivals had him listed as. (6′3″, 210)
My experience with Scout is that they have a bad habit of not updating their list of recruits as often as Rivals does.
I looked at Mack’s profile on Scout and noticed there is no biography underneath his picture and no stories on display over to the left. That usually means they haven’t paid much attention to that specific recruit for quite some time.
Chris Smith is supposed to be a 6′2″, 230 lb. LB recruit, but the last time I checked just a short while back, they still had him listed at 219 lbs. from his Jr. season.

    By GonzoHog on Nov 3, 2009 @ 4:21am

  18. Since the “Spikes eye-gouge” technique warrants only a half-game suspension, who can we sacrifice for the first-half of the Troy game in attempt to maliciously blind Garcia?

    By Daniel M. on Nov 3, 2009 @ 9:42am

  19. How about our guard Stefan Welsh?

    By OKOFCOURSE on Nov 3, 2009 @ 10:03am

  20. Is Welsh suspended for the incident over the summer (can’t remember what it was) or is there something new?

    By Daniel M. on Nov 3, 2009 @ 10:14am

  21. Welsh is suspended for this semester. Coach however has provider him a chance to reduce that suspension. Coach says he is doing everything required of him.

Other players will have suspensions as well however their suspensions will be considerably shorter.

Who is the football player who was playing basketball this fall ? Anybody ?

By Ron in Germany on Nov 3, 2009 @ 10:38am

  22. Daniel, I hope none of our players ever resort to such barbarian tactics.

Shame on you for even thinking that. These are all kids who are somebody’s son, brother or even maybe husband. Life is supposed to go on after College. I am so disappointed. :(

By Ron in Germany on Nov 3, 2009 @ 10:43am

  23. Brandon Mitchel, our freshman redshirt quarter, and he’s a good one. He had commited to LSU (Brady) in basketball but when Brady was canned he decommited and came here (thank God) on a football scholarship.

    By OKOFCOURSE on Nov 3, 2009 @ 10:44am

  24. Thanks OK

By Ron in Germany on Nov 3, 2009 @ 10:47am

  25. I am sure he was being factitious, as I was, because of the light punishment that Spikes received. The Refs and NCAA suits are the ones, and only ones, who are suppose to protect the players with the appropriate punishment (not coaches) but I suppose keeping Florida undefeated is more important to them then doing their job.

    By OKOFCOURSE on Nov 3, 2009 @ 10:59am

  26. You’re welcome, of course.

    By OKOFCOURSE on Nov 3, 2009 @ 11:01am

  27. Daniel, I see Gus Malzahn leaving, but going back to coach high school ball.

Malzahn’s offense didn’t beat Ole Miss. Ole Miss beat Ole Miss. Ole Miss was controlling the ball towards the end of the game. Auburn got a strange pick 6 and two points off a blocked kick.

Ole Miss would beat Auburn nine times out of ten. Keep in mind I’m not an Ole Miss fan. I’m glad Auburn beat Ole Miss, I’m just calling it as I saw it.

    By Mike on Nov 3, 2009 @ 11:09am

  28. Ron, I think I see you’re being facetious, but just in case I was just kidding. It is an unspeakable act that deserves a suspension for at least two games. I wish someone would go up to Mike Slive and poke him really hard right square in the forehead. He is like Ryan Howard in the last few games of the World Series: swing and a miss. Isn’t this strike three?

Again, one more major embarrasement for the entire conference. This and the officiating will be brought up in the SECCG, whatever bowl game, if any, Georgia ends up at, the bowl game Florida goes to, and all subsequent media coverage. Throw in the bowl games the hogs and LSU go to where the officiating is again discussed. Then we have the fun of reliving it all at next year’s SEC football media days.

    Yee-haw Mike Slive.

    By Daniel M. on Nov 3, 2009 @ 11:09am

  29. Mike, I agree with you and I wonder how the Ole Miss fanbase is reacting to this. They knew Nutt is a great motivator. I heard speculation from them that Nutt saved McCluster for our game. Could they have, to quote Lee Corso, “shot their wad” last week against us?

    By Daniel M. on Nov 3, 2009 @ 11:27am

  30. what do you guys think about brandon mitchell possibly suiting up for the hoop hogs? I know a/b his LSU bball offer and he obviously has the measureables to compete at a SEC level. Wonder what BP thinks a/b it?

    By PK on Nov 3, 2009 @ 12:23pm

  31. PK,

Pelphrey talked about it and said right now he is on the football team. I assume he will play after football season but he is not practicing with the BB team as f now.

By Ron in Germany on Nov 3, 2009 @ 12:27pm

  32. The assumption is mine, not Pelphrey’s

By Ron in Germany on Nov 3, 2009 @ 12:29pm

  33. Gonzo,

I agree about Rivals being more reliable than Scout.

Also, about Smith, I have a trained eye for the “eyeball test”, and Smith does look to be lighter than 230, given he is 6′3.
He definitely looks more like 215-220 to me. (that’s jmho tho)

But, even if I’m correct on his weight our strength program would put 10# on him in a matter of months anyway.

Personally, I prefer the agile LBs over the big ones usually.
For OLB I like em to avg: 6′2/220 ; and for MLB 6′4/235

  34. I really like that Brandon is playing bball. Brady always had a very physical team at LSU. We need as much toughness on the court as possible. Basketball will certainly increase his versatility on the football field. Very few times have we seen it work out when athletes play both sports. With Brandon redshirting this year, it’s a great opportunity for him to continue to develop physically and mentally.

    By Daniel M. on Nov 3, 2009 @ 1:11pm

  35. Speaking of hoops, how about Glenn Bryant in the exhibition game? The highlights on the news last night ahowed one of his blocks. That kid can elevate like nobody we’ve had since Brandon Dean.

  39. It’s simply amazing how Florida players literally get away with murder these days. Only a half game suspension?
Personally, I don’t think that says much for Urban Meyer. He should make the suspension longer, have a talk with Spikes, and give him a friendly reminder of how to play the game of football.
He should tell him if that ever happens again, it’ll be the last time he ever suits up in a UofF uniform, period!

    By GonzoHog on Nov 4, 2009 @ 4:24am

  40. He can’t do that. Winning is everything. It reminds me of the time I was coaching little league football and the star QB of our 11-12 year old team (I coached the 6 year olds) got caught smoking weed at school. He was suspended a game, but not the very next game because that happened to be against a talented team. No, he was suspended a couple of games later against a team with little talent.

    By MRPRFCT on Nov 4, 2009 @ 10:15am

  41. MRP, I have had the same experience. And the big time coaches have, too! That is one very good reason for taking the schollies back to 125. Also, I think you tend to get into more trouble with a freshman and maybe a sophmore. I had just as soon see the freshman be inelgible, back like it was several years ago. If the NCAA did this there would be less discipline problems.

If a coach pulls a stud and sits him down for a game, he risks losing that game. If that is the one game that keeps him from being bowl elgible, he is in trouble with the fan base.

Pel already has some kids he is going to have to sit down for a few games. And his season hasn’t started.

  45. Well then if Urban Meyer can’t do it, the league should step in and take over. But then again, that would mean putting Florida’s perfect record in jeporty, meaning, that matchup of 2 unbeatens in the SEC championship game would be at risk as well.
Your right, winning is everything, because winning is $$$$$.

    By GonzoHog on Nov 4, 2009 @ 6:01pm

  46. Brandon Spikes has been suspended for the whole game now. Boy, that Urban Meyer is a tough coach. (Heavy Sarcasm)He is sending out a strong message to his players. If you get caught on tv and the national media runs with it you WILL get in trouble.

  47. does anyone know when michael dyer is deciding? and byron jones? honestly i’d rather get jones if we had to decide between the two.
    go hogs go!

    By hogfaninlouisiana on Nov 4, 2009 @ 7:20pm

  48. Dyer is supposedly announcing his “commitment” to Auburn Friday. I put that in quotes because he says he’s committing but he’s still going to take visits. He’s very likely going there. I’d agree with the sentiment that Jones is a more important get than Dyer. We HAVE to have Jones.

By your mom goes to college on Nov 4, 2009 @ 7:25pm

  49. Byran Jones is definitely a must-get recruit.
We need his size/strength in a bad way.

  50. Pig-in-a-poke,

I heard about that on the radio. The way I heard it explained, was that Spikes went ahead and suspended himself for that entire game with Vanderbilt, as if that were going to make him look better.
They probably should have just left that one alone, instead of trying to play politics with the media.
Everyone knows that wouldn’t have happened with an LSU or a Alabama up next on the scheduel.
Just the simple fact that the league didn’t have one word to say about it, tells me all I need to know about what priority comes 1st.

    By GonzoHog on Nov 5, 2009 @ 3:57am

  51. Sorry Wally but I think Ole Miss only needs to beat Northern Arizonia to be bowl eligible. I could be wrong but I don’t think so.

    By OKOFCOURSE on Nov 5, 2009 @ 6:40am

  52. That’s wrong. They’ve already played a FCS school so Northern Arizona can’t count toward the win total for a bowl game. Ole miss will have to win 7 to be bowl eligible.

    By MRPRFCT on Nov 5, 2009 @ 7:19am

  53. Who is that?

    By OKOFCOURSE on Nov 5, 2009 @ 7:28am

  54. SE Louisiana. 2nd game of the season.

    By MRPRFCT on Nov 5, 2009 @ 7:52am

  55. I just looked them up. Sorry Wally and MrP, when I read SE Louisiana I was thinking of the ones in the Sun Belt conference. Man, I would really like to go to the egg bowl this year and see that game because I don’t think Ole Miss will beat LSU or Tenn; Houston will be sweating bullets. If we make a bowl and the Rebels don’t – talk about sweet justice. This is just too good to be true.

    By OKOFCOURSE on Nov 5, 2009 @ 8:04am

  56. OOC,

Don’t talk about “you know who’s” team that way.
You know how he loves Hootie.

    By GonzoHog on Nov 5, 2009 @ 4:44pm

  57. Like it has been said a win over N. Arizona will not count towards the Rebels being bowl eligible. Only one FCS win can count towards bowl eligibility.

    By BoutDemHogs on Nov 5, 2009 @ 4:48pm

  58. Tenn. has Memphis at home before they travel to Oxford to play Ole Miss. After that, they have Vandi and Kentucky.
I think the Vols will really be up for the Rebels and beat them in Oxford.
I think if Tenn. loses again, it’ll have to be an upset in Lexington.
