Navarro College player could help Hogs
October 30, 2009 – 6:00 amArkansas has voiced a desire for immediate help at cornerback and is seriously looking at Saheed Imoru of Navarro College.
Imoru, 5-10, 192, 4.34 played at Houston Alief Hastings before arriving at Navarro.
He has offers from New Mexico, Pittsburgh and North Texas, with Iowa State close to offering. Arkansas, Texas A&M and Houston are also showing interest.
Hog defensive tackle coach Bobby Allen is the lead recruiter of Imoru.
“He said he wants to show the head coach my film,” Imoru said. “He said the defensive coordinator and cornerback coach really like me and they’re thinking about bringing me in but waiting for the head coach to watch my film to approve it.”
Playing junior college football isn’t the most glamorous atmosphere to participate in and can be a challenge.
“I want to go to a school that has a real solid program that everybody is behind,” said Imoru, who reports a 40-inch vertical. “Because in junior college it’s kind of hard to play sometimes not everybody is behind you like some schools. I’m looking for a good student body.”
Colleges have had success moving running backs to cornerback because of their athleticism. Imoru has only played in the defensive backfield for about a year.
“I played running back before that,” Imoru said. “At first it took a couple of weeks because I was use to carrying the ball and catching the ball instead of defending the ball. I’m still adjusting to it but it’s easier. Everything is moving slower than it did initially.”
Imoru talked about his strengths.
“I’m mostly a man corner not very much of a zone corner,” he said. “But I can do it. That’s what my coach is always telling me that will help at the next level and probably beyond that my technique and my physical play.”

Exactly what we need….SPEED at the cornerback position.

Is this in anyway possibly a statement on Darius Winston’s situation(if there is one) or just a desire to add depth?

I hope Darius gets some good playing time this weekend.

I think it’s a depth issue. We need a couple of more 4.3 guys to minimize the speed of some of the SEC receivers we’ll be facing.

The WRs that are killing us aren’t necessarily fast, but huge. It seems all the top WRs in the SEC are giants.

I hope we get him. Ahhh, SPEED, SPEED, BEAUTIFUL SPEED. As Jimmy Johnson once said, “You can not coach speed”.

does anyone know what the status of Darius Winston is? seems awfully quiet for a five star recruit…maybe he is having a hard time adjusting to the rigors of college life…whatever it is I hope he gets adjusted and does well…I wish him the best

If this kid can really run a 4.3 and hit like a claw hammer (IOW make you forget what you were doing
) I say bring him.
If you don’t have depth in the SEC you wind up looking like Vandy.
