Hogs eyeing JC DE
October 30, 2009 – 11:37 amArkansas assistant coach Bobby Allen likes what he’s seen of Navarro College defensive end Blake Chavis, who reports scholarship offers from San Diego State, Kansas and Lamar.
“He said he’s recruiting me hard and they like what they see on film and they just want to see more game film,” said Chavis, who’s receiving interest from Arkansas, Ole Miss and Utah. “I’m just wanting on an offer. I like the fans at Arkansas. That’s something.”
Chavis, 6-6, 230, 4.7 signed with Texas A&M out of West Brook high school in Beaumont, Texas but was ruled ineligible. His older brother, Billy Chavis played two seasons at A&M before transferring to Lamar, who’s restarting their football program in 2010.
“I love the game of football but I know you can’t play it forever,” said Chavis, who claims a 38-inch vertical. “I want to get a degree and have something after football. I like the fans at Arkansas. That’s something I’m looking for so I can feel like it’s a family.”
Chavis said he attacks offenses with a killer instinct.
“I don’t want to be blocked,” Chavis said. “I don’t want to be touched. I’m mean off the ball with my first quick step. I have good eyes and hands.”
He said he plans to visit Kansas in November and San Diego State in early December
