  5. So did he back out and say he wanted to open up the process? Or could we be expecting a commit from Hill soon?

  8. that IS interesting..this recruiting thing is so crazy…we shall see how it all washes out…I do get the sense that quite a few of the in state prospects are looking else where…it could be because of the loaded talent we have now and coming in…or maybe they dont like Petrino…who knows…Go Hogs!!!

  10. It can’t be because they don’t like Petrino. He is an individual that looks the player in the eye when he talks to them and does his best to make them feel at home…as do the other coaches.

  11. I like the video, hope they show the players that before every game.

  12. Hill now has Missouri, Arkansas and Minnesota as his 3 favorites in no particular order.
What does Minnesota have to offer?
I’m starting to get that strange sensation someone is UofA bound.

  17. Mr. Hill will be a very nice addition to our team.

    By Bigfoot on Aug 1, 2009 @ 1:24pm

  18. Arkansas defense is going to be 10 times better than last year we got the right potential this year to pull upset any where we go if we get the right play calls and no turn over and I see us doing great with beating LSU and Alabama this year and beating Ole miss. We do good on Offense side of the ball we will have a chance to win every time. Let’s see a better turn around than last year. We will stop the run this year

    By razorfan on Aug 1, 2009 @ 5:50pm

  19. i do hope Hill comes to Arkansas, about the recruits,im like the guy who said the Hogs have so much at certain postions it may be makeing some recruits kind of shy,but i bet Petrino and staff will recruit what they want.

    By hogjim on Aug 1, 2009 @ 6:19pm

  20. Someone isn’t drinking the kool-aid, they’re taking a bath in it! We’re gonna beat ole miss, alabama, AND lsu on the road? Since the lsu game has left cbs I’d bet it’ll be played at night on espn. Baton rouge at night ain’t easy.

    By MRPRFCT on Aug 1, 2009 @ 6:48pm

  21. Yeah Razorfan i think your predictions are a little too optimistic, but I like the enthusiasm… 8-4 I’m callin it with an SEC west title in 2010

By Hog Fan In TN on Aug 1, 2009 @ 8:21pm

  22. We had the worst defense and still finished 5-7. On top of that we were either a penalty or kick from going 6-6.

It’s going to be a four way race….. LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Ark. Miss St. and Auburn at the bottom.

It’s going to come down to the QBs….. Jefferson, Snead, Mallet, McElroy.

Hopefully, seven weeks from tonight, we’ll all be talking about winning the SEC west.

    By Mike on Aug 1, 2009 @ 9:10pm

  23. Hey I am a fan so I am all for hoping that 7 weeks from now we are looking at that and talking about that.

A memphis writer just wrote a really good article on the Hogs mostly with quotes from DJ Williams. I really liked it and it has me very encouraged. I just can’t wait until next week so we can start hearing from the coaching staff on who is standing out and how things are going. The coaches really shoot it straight so I think we will get a really good feel for how things are going.

    CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!

  24. “Football Factories” like USC Trojans have cycles…even with the best of talent..it is rare these days for teams to go undefeated year after year. There are too many variables…new coaches, new talented players not familiar with the particular system of that school etc. Some in the SEC are having those situations…also, injury to key players, locations of the games and so on can determine the outcome of games. The prognosticators are looking at team talent and other factors and predict who will come out where at the end of the season…even they miss it from time to time. I say lets all enjoy the upcoming season…keep backing our Hogs. I personally believe we will catch one or two of those teams off guard and wind up higher than what the “experts” are predicting. The season awaits us…let’s enjoy !!

  25. Hey guys, I was downloading the Razorbacks 2009 media guide yesterday, and I noticed all the great weight gains the Hogs have made in the weight room this off-season. Some of the in-coming Freshmen are a little bit bigger too.
Here’s a list of the starters with their class, hieght, weight, and how much weight they gained from last season in parenthesis:

    OFFENSE

    WR – Joe Adams – So., 5-11, 182. (12 lbs.)
    WR – London Crawford – Sr., 6-2, 205. (5 lbs.)
    WR – Jarius Wright – So., 5-10, 180. (10 lbs.)

    RT – DeMarcus Love – Jr., 6-5, 315. (15 lbs.)
QB – Ryan Mallett – So., 6-7, 238. (lost 18 lbs. since last season.)
    RB – Micheal Smith – Sr., 5-7, 180. (7 lbs.) (I think he’s closer to 190 now.)
    FB – Van Stumon – Jr., 6-1, 266. (lost 4 lbs.)
    K – Alex Tejada – Jr., 6-0, 205. (same)
    P – Briton Forester – Jr., 5-10, 185. (same)

    DEFENSE

    DE – Jake Bequette – So., 6-5, 271. (16 lbs.)
    NT – Zack Stadther – So., 6-1, 295. (15 lbs.)
    DT – Malcolm Sheppard – Sr., 6-2, 291. (19 lbs.)
    DE – Adrian Davis – Sr., 6-4, 252. (14 lbs.)
    LB – Freddy Burton – Jr., 6-2, 231. (10 lbs.)
    LB – Wendel Davis – Sr., 6-1, 230. (8 lbs.)
    LB – Jerry Franklin – So., 6-1, 241. (12 lbs.)

    FS – Matt Harris – Sr., 6-2, 198. (6 lbs.)
    CB – Isaac Madison – Jr., 5-11, 185. (3 lbs)

Other notable weight gains who need to be mentioned:

    WR – Greg Childs – So., 6-3, 217. (17 lbs.)
OG – Zhamal Thomas – Jr., 6-5, 343. (18 lbs. more than was listed at his recruitment)
    QB – Tyler Wilson – Fr., 6-3, 215. (30 lbs.)
    DE – DeMario Ambrose – Jr., 6-5, 270. (15 lbs.)
    DT – Patrick Jones – Jr., 6-1, 309. (?, but I think he’s a lot bigger)
    LB – Tenarius Wright – Fr.-RS., 6-1, 238. (9 lbs.)
    LB – Matt Marshall – Fr.-RS., 6-1, 230. (15 lbs.)
    LB – Jelani Smith – Fr.-RS., 6-0, 215.
    (10 lbs.)

    WR – Neal Barlow – Fr., 6-6, 200. (10 lbs.)
    LB – Austin Moss – Fr., 6-3, 223. (6 lbs.)
    DE – Colton Nash – Fr., 6-6, 261. (18 lbs.)
    DB – Ross Rasner – Fr., 6-0, 205. (7 lbs.)
    WR – Lance Ray – Fr., 6-3, 207. (27 lbs.)
    OG – Travis Swanson – Fr., 6-5, 305. (33 lbs.)
    LB – Terrell Williams – Fr., 6-3, 225. (10 lbs.)
    RB – Ronnie Wingo – Fr., 6-3, 218. (same)
    QB – Jim Youngblood – Fr.-RS., 6-2, 225. (8 lbs.)
    OG – Cobi Berna – Fr., 6-5, 293. (13 lbs.)
    OT – Grant Freeman – So., 6-7, 298. (21 lbs.)
    TE – Chris Gragg – So., 6-3, 230. (20 lbs.)

Some of the weights may vary a couple of pounds, but if I had to guess on a few, I tried to undercut it a little so the weights wouldn’t be over-inflated.
This should have everyone excited about the team’s improvement this season. I think there’s a lot a motivation on this team.

To answer your questions Bigfoot – dunno..

Sorry for the multiple posts.. eee just getting pumped i guess…

  34. Me thinks this is one of the “colleges” within the UNIVERSITY. Don’t you have a Walton School of Business. and there is XXX School of Engineering, Music, etc, and Schools of Basket Weaving, Nose Picking, and Tyson School of Chicken Plucking. I think UALR has a Clinton School of International Studies.

My guess is that if you donate enough money they will name a school for you.

    By Bigfoot on Aug 2, 2009 @ 3:55pm

  35. NO NO… that is the Clinton School of Interns…

By hog fan in florida on Aug 2, 2009 @ 6:41pm

  36. Every powerhouse program has its share of peaks and valleys in terms of wins/losses and being the “hot” school/program to commit to. When UA agreed to a 2-year home and home with USC, Pete Carroll hadn’t arrived to change the atmosphere and attitude in that program. They were an average Pac-10 program with great tradition shortly before Pete laid the blueprint for returned success. The same goes for Florida and the Zook years until Urban Meyer arrived changed expectations. Look at Florida State who was unbeatable in the ACC at one period and Penn State who recently has risen from mediocrity back to national prominence. Who remembers what the OU program experienced before the arrival of Bob Stoops? What I’m saying Hogfans is GET READY! Bobby Petrino and his staff are laying the foundation for the Razorbacks to be consistently in the mix for the nations best prospects and in the conversation for the national title. The players are paying the price, and it’s going to show on the field this season. Mallett has been a student in this system for a year, and I expect him to be mentioned with Tebow, Bradford, Snead, and McCoy by the end of the season. GO HOGS!!!!

    By Mel on Aug 3, 2009 @ 12:28am

  37. wow, Lance ray, 27 lbs., greg childs, 17 lbs.

    tyler wilson, 30 lbs.

    By Razorback56 on Aug 3, 2009 @ 7:36am

  38. I remember when Tyler Wilson signed with the Hogs, thinking boy, if only he gain around 25 to 30 lbs. of lean muscle to add to that skinny 6′3″ frame, he would be fine.
I watched Tyler for 2 years lead Greenwood to back to back state titles, watching him play almost every Friday night over that time span.
I knew then if he could gain the weight, he’d be a serious SEC QB someday. I still believe that.

    By GonzoHog on Aug 3, 2009 @ 7:50am

  39. wilson is pretty mobile, too.

he is going to be a darn good QB by the time he leaves. probably breaking all of mallett’s records.

when you get a kid focused on football in a college weight program that muscle just comes.

    can’t wait for the season.

    By Razorback56 on Aug 3, 2009 @ 7:58am

  40. Why is everyone so excited about Ray and Wilson putting on the weight? Hell, I put on so much weight I had to quit drinking beer.

    J

    By B9HOGFAN on Aug 3, 2009 @ 8:06am

  41. How can he break all of Mallett’s records when they’re practically playing in the same era. Mallett would have to leave after next year and Wilson would have to stay until after his senior year.

    By MRPRFCT on Aug 3, 2009 @ 8:29am

  42. well, for single season records it could very well be done.

mallett is just a RS frosh, brah.

even if mallett stayed two years, tyler would still have two years to be a starter.

    By Razorback56 on Aug 3, 2009 @ 8:37am

  43. Wow Mr. “p”…. you figured it out how wilson could break all of Mallets’ records!! Man…its good to see you put that 131 IQ to the test!

    By Piglett on Aug 3, 2009 @ 8:37am

  44. remember mr p., mallett has zero stats thus far for us.

    By Razorback56 on Aug 3, 2009 @ 8:37am

  45. Is Marques Wade still on the team? I know he was injured last year.

    By Don on Aug 3, 2009 @ 9:17am

  46. Are you ready for some football! 30 day and counting. Can I please get an amen!

    By HawgwildinMI on Aug 3, 2009 @ 10:41am

  47. I dont see Mallett leaving early at all unless he flat out runs things. This is a guy who is a cut ou a little like Peyton Manning and he could really make a major impact in recruiting, especially if he shows up this year.

    By HawgwildinMI on Aug 3, 2009 @ 10:45am

  48. Hogwild, try this!!

    AMEN

    PIG SOOIE!!

    By blake on Aug 3, 2009 @ 11:51am

  50. Something else to remember. Mallett has dropped 20lbs and is supposed to be much lighter on his feet. Fast I doubt it, but more mobile I am sure. He agree he has that Peyton Manning thing going on in his arm, size, and talent. I really think as this season goes on and his name starts to blow up out there (and it will) that a lot of recruits will become very interested.

    By blake on Aug 3, 2009 @ 11:52am

  51. Our LB corp is the group I’m most interested in… as far as weight gain is concerned.

We’ve needed bigger/stronger LBs for a while now.

  52. razorbacks 10-2 this year whoop some ass specially Alabama they think they always been better than us but by overall they beat us a little more than we beat them and ole miss houston nutt all about stopping the run but always had a bad defense passing effientcy and LSU is going to be a tough match and Alabama, if we are going to win those games let’s see what petrino pull out of the hat when the game is tied and we got the ball on 15 yard line and we are kicking field goal to win the game. That’s what im talking about. Whoop some ass 50 points a game. #1 Razorback Fan

    By razorfan on Aug 3, 2009 @ 8:41pm

  53. I believe we could catch Georgia a little flat footed in Fayettville this season, but if you want to take it a step further, I believe it’s also possible to catch ‘Bama not looking in Tuscaloosa.
The Tide will be good, but still developing at QB, and I think the Hogs will be good enough on offense this season to make enough big plays to stay with them. If it’s close in the 4th qr., we have as good a chance to beat the Tide as anyone will this season. We have the big backs to pound the ball against their defense, so hopefully our defense will stop the Tide’s offense enough times throughout the game to keep ‘Bama’s defense on the field for long periods of time.
I think if we do that, we have a chance.
Between Georgia, Alabama, Florida, ans Ole Miss, if we can win at least two of those, I think we’ll have a great season.

    By GonzoHog on Aug 3, 2009 @ 9:01pm

  54. LOL @ the whole Mallet/Wilson records talk. Mallet, who is a sophomore and NOT a RS frosh, hasn’t thrown a pass yet and some of you already have him breaking records. So far the only record he has is highest BAC on Dickson Street. Let’s let Wilson and Mallet both have the opportunity to play without heaping all these unneccesary expectations on them. Gotta go with MR P on this one. It was a silly thing to say. Go Hogs!

  56. So the question I asked about the KY writers article saying Pelphrey’s Honeymoon was over got some response from a local source. Here is the link.

I agree this media member that wanted to remain anonymous is being cowardly if you ask me. I also understand the situation well I am a Razorback fan nontheless. The ARP issue is not good, the turnover has not been good, and last years season did not go good after such a good start with the wins over UT and OU, but I see some positives as well. I like the players Pel signed for the 2009 class, and I really like the players Pel is after for the 2010 and 2011 classes. It appears to me that things are working themselves out and if 2010 (COME ON DOWN COTHRAN AND RATLIFF!!!) and 2011 (COME ON DOWN MADDEN AND MICKELSON!!!) work out we could be back among the top elite programs in the nation in no time.

I don’t think Pel is in over his head he just inherited a messy situation. Top coaches all over said no thank you to the situation. And as Pel rides this out and gets things turned in the right direction I personally would say that the Honeymoon is just about to begin…

    By blake on Aug 4, 2009 @ 3:26pm

  57. I had to take the link out because it wouldn’t let me make my post.

    By blake on Aug 4, 2009 @ 3:26pm

  58. And on the 2011 class we already have Ross one of the 3 in state top100 national players committed. Madden and Mickelson just need to join him. Think about the chemistry they must have playing together for the Wings all this time together. Unreal.

    By blake on Aug 4, 2009 @ 3:33pm

  59. Blake, Kentucky fans stated on their basketball site that Courtney Fortson was one of the top five guards in the SEC. Another Kentucky fan pick Courtney Fortson and Rotnei Clarke. All of the Kentucky fans thought that Coach Pelphrey was head in the right direction with the his team.

    By basketball fan since '78 on Aug 4, 2009 @ 9:44pm

  60. the ky fans have seemed to root for pel. a few writers have put a negative spin on things. i hope pel gets it going and we can put it on ky and coach calipari bc he is just arrogant. the ar writer makes me mad he wont stand behind his opinion.

    By blake on Aug 4, 2009 @ 11:20pm

  61. I think Pel is doing great. I also like the Jucos he signed. They will fill a need and be leaving at the very time we need more scholarships. That backup juco center Pel signed from that powerhouse junior college is the perfect guy to back up Washington also. then he and Borden should be able to hold their own next year as help arrives the following year (and it should because Pel should have no trouble convincing a prime time Center if he comes here he will get playing time. Great foresight.

  63. The SEC West should be as tough in basketball as it will be in football this season.
I don’t look for an SEC WEst title just yet, just lots of improvement.
The program is headed in the right direction with Coach Pelphrey, just as the football team is with Coach Petrino.
I think we’re taking baby steps in accuiring our goals, we just have to be patient as a fan base.
The best of Razorback basketball and football are still yet to come Two years from now, our programs are going to look totally different.

    GO HOGS GO!!!!!

  64. Blake, you can go to Woopig.net and read what the cowardly supposely professional AR sportswriter told the KY writer about Coach Pelphrey. I can see why he wouldn’t want to be identify. In all the years I been following Arkansas sports I have never seen an Arkansas sportswriter throw an Arkansas coach under the bus like this sportswriter did to Coach Pelphrey and this being Coach Pelphrey ’s second year as coach. I know at the end of Coach Nutt and Coach Richardson tenure the media weren’t kind to these coaches, but I don’t think any of the sportswriters said anything this bad about them. Blake, if you can I like for you to go to this site and read the writer’s comments and tell me your thoughts on his comments about Coach Pelphrey.
    Thanks,
