  1. bad news on Byran Jones, seems he always has something else going on.

  2. Thanks for the list Richard :P

  3. I sure would like to see some more top talent than what is currently on the list. Bennett, Barnett, and Hill are good but i sure wish we had some more top talent show up.

    By shawn on Jul 10, 2009 @ 11:22am

  4. shawn, I’m sure this is only a partial list. Keep your chin up !

Have it and they will come, have it and they will come.

By Ron in Jordan on Jul 10, 2009 @ 11:28am

  5. I agree, there will be way more than whats on this list. Im so ready for us to start hosting alot of these 5 stars. I think after this season if our offense does perform as expected it will get alot of attention for the future recruits. I think Petrino has done a really good job of finding quality 3 stars that will turn out very good. I attended a lunchin one time where Petrino talked recruiting and i can tell you he knows exactly what hes doing.

    By shawn on Jul 10, 2009 @ 11:42am

  6. Anyone notice Cobbs on there. He may try to attend. I would really like it if he did and got to see more what the UA is all about and maybe we can squeak back into the top of his list.

    By blake on Jul 10, 2009 @ 11:42am

  7. Unrelated but something I wanted to see how you guys felt.

So in today’s paper the incoming recruit they focused on is Ryan Calendar. He is 6 foot 7 and weighs like 235-240.

The article says he will get his first look at outside Linebacker. OH MY GOODNESS! That would probably be the most amazing thing if he turns out a good fit there. A LB that tall, big, and quick (notice he started at Safety as a freshman in HS so he knows coverage). I am actually really excited right now thinking about this.

What does everyone else think about this?

    By blake on Jul 10, 2009 @ 11:45am

  8. I’m like shawn, that list is unimpressive.

    P.

    By Portie on Jul 10, 2009 @ 11:48am

  9. WOW….that tall, fast and the weight…translates in to HEAVY HITTER…
We just need a lot more players like that…In the SEC…(the grown up man’s conference) you have to have long, hard and fast players…or you are gonna get crushed. in my humble opinion…..Florida and Alabama will knock your jock loose otherwise.

By Razorback Roger in Florida on Jul 10, 2009 @ 11:50am

  10. Blake, Thats the first thing I noticed too ! He seems to be one great athlete ! My concern would be him trying to cover a little/quick receiver, but then I think of one like that trying to come into his area and thats the last thing he will remember. Lights Out !!
It would be a rarity for sure! WPS !!!!!!!!

By Ron in Jordan on Jul 10, 2009 @ 1:11pm

  11. It looks like he has the makings of a strong side linebacker. He would be a solid 6 pr 7 technique for the 3-4 and could go man-to-man on a TE out of the 4-3. Think of the surprise blitz with him as a blitzer!!

I am waiting with baited breathe for an official 2009 roster of returnies and the inbound 2009 recruiting class. That should make each of us feel a lot better. We just have to be a TD better of offense and a TD better on defense on the average!! I am excited!!

    By bigfoot on Jul 10, 2009 @ 2:08pm

  12. as far as Ryan Calendar,

From all the video of him plus what the recruiting services say about him, I think he’ll make a scary outside backer in a 3-4 scheme when all is said and done.

So for the hawgs, i think they redshirt him and mold him into a position, whether its D-End, LB, or a beast of a tight end

    By PK on Jul 10, 2009 @ 3:33pm

  13. you can write off Jones, Dyer, Mathews and Mack this year. Too much fallout and bad press re BB, too much emphasis on longshots in Florida instead of working Texas-look at what Texas, A&M, OK, OK ST. are doing in Texas. All top classess and A&M did not exactly have a good performance year either.

    By hog 55 on Jul 10, 2009 @ 3:37pm

  14. any word on Dyer, Mack, Mosley attending?

    By samuel settings on Jul 10, 2009 @ 3:48pm

  15. Aren”t Sam Harvill and Brey Cook Juniors???

    By hogfried on Jul 10, 2009 @ 7:31pm

  16. I think we are all drinking too much kool-aid. Lets think about this for a second.
6′7″ 230 will not remain a LB for very long. Strength coaches will have him up to 250 quick as a hickup ! And I dont see anybody that big being a surprise to anyone on a blitz ! Sorry bigfoot ;) And last time I looked we run a base 4-3, PK
With that said, I think he will be a stud in his second year !
Now I need to go pee (too much kool-aid) ;) :P

By Ron in Jordan on Jul 10, 2009 @ 8:30pm

  17. Couldn’t have said it better myself Ron. Good post.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 10, 2009 @ 10:15pm

  18. If Antonio Harding and/or Grant Gill have good camps, I think this would be the time to expect the coaching staff to make them an offer.

Also, these camps aren’t just about the coaches evaluating or re-evaluating a recruit, but vice-versa as well.
Some of these kids may have already visited a time or two, but still want to see the coaches in action a little more, get a good feel for them and develope a better relationship.
Who knows, recruits that already have offers on the table like Chase Peterson, Eric Bennett, Calvin Barnett and Marquis Hill, could decide to go ahead and commit if they have a good visit.

    By GonzoHog on Jul 11, 2009 @ 7:55am

  19. As of right now it doesn’t appear that we’ll have a Top 25 class.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 11, 2009 @ 7:58am

  20. I think some of that has a lot to do with us not getting the early commits from the more established recruits.
Last year, Colbi Berna and Darius Winston were the first two to commit. They were both highly ranked.
This year, the recruits we’re getting commits from have good talent, but are either rated in the 3 star range by the recruiting services or just haven’t been rated yet.
A couple of commits from the 4 star recruits would change everything.

    By GonzoHog on Jul 11, 2009 @ 8:16am

  21. Commitments from our top instate players would help, particularly Dyer. Why would top out of state players commit when we can’t even get the top instate players to commit?

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 11, 2009 @ 9:01am

  22. I tend to agree with MRPRFCT at this stage of the process. However, when I look at the present commits, I see the coaches have thus far “cherry picked” some talent. Brad Hefley stands out most prominent. Then Chris Smith and Braylon Mitchell. I do think that we will land Calvin Barnett out of Tulsa. I realistically gave up on Dyer long ago. If the man doesnt have the zeal to be a Hog then adios. I do believe Petrino will still go for height, speed and potential weight..but then these are the musings from an old HOG stranded in Florida.

By hog fan in florida on Jul 11, 2009 @ 9:27am

  23. The situation with Dyer is a little more complex than the one we had with Berna and Winston last year.
The O-line, D-secondary and RBs needed a lot of help last year. We got that for the most part, especially at RB.
So in regard to that, I think Dyer has to be a lot more selective about choosing the best fit for him.
Also, other than Dyer, who else is on the “must get” list for in-state recruits?

    By GonzoHog on Jul 11, 2009 @ 9:40am

  24. Have you given up on Parker Mack, Bryan Jones, Brishen Matthews, and the other Arkansas kids we’ve offered that have yet to commit?

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 11, 2009 @ 9:55am

  25. I haven’t given up, but as far as Mack is concerned, as talented as he is in the classroom, I think he has to be really careful about the school he chooses if his goal is to become a medical doctor.
Bryan Jones would be a great commit, but like I said, other than Dyer, how many others would be on the “must get” list?
Also, how do you know the reasoning behind the recruits decision making? Does that automatically mean the coaching staff “can’t get them to commit?”
Just because their in-state kids doesn’t mean they have to make up their minds right now or something is wrong.

    By GonzoHog on Jul 11, 2009 @ 10:19am

  26. Don’t read too much into these camps. As for out of state players not committing because in state players haven’t…that is just ridiculous. They are all interested in their own situation. Sure you could have a commit that urges others to join but I just don’t see that as much of a factor for the out of state guys. Our program is still very attractive for a lot of top players. And some of this could be the coaching staff making sure the right guys come aboard. Here is how I read the situation on each player:
Brishen Matthews…he will be a Hog, but will listen to HDN and Ole Miss.
Parker Mack…has a strong academic component and may feel that Vandy is a better fit overall. But UA will be very tough to turn down.
Bryan Jones…is waiting for an LSU offer. If he doesn’t get it, Arkansas may be the choice.
Michael Dyer…he’s feeling the love from Auburn and Malzahn. Again, in the end, many close to the situation insist that his family REALLY wants him at Arkansas. It may come down to signing day and he will soak up the attention.

    By Ima Hawg on Jul 11, 2009 @ 12:38pm

  27. It’s not ridiculous. It happened with mitch mustain.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 11, 2009 @ 1:08pm

  28. Jones will be a HOG…if LSU was going to offer that would have already happened. They have already offered 4 DT and just offered another last week. I am sure Dyer is feeling a lot of love from Gus and Auburn, but that offense would be the worst thing for him if he has a desire to play in the NFL. I believe MD will be a HOG and chase DMAC record. More reasons to stay instate. As for as MACK he has just visited Vandy for the second time and he may well go there, but I think he becomes a HOG too!

    By RAS on Jul 11, 2009 @ 2:23pm

  29. I see a minimum of 6 kids on that list that are not going to be Sr’s this fall.

    By Darkhorse on Jul 11, 2009 @ 3:57pm

  30. MRPRFCT,

Please explain how out of state recruits commiting to the UofA were effected by the recruitment of Mustain.
Also, how is that situation in comparison to our present one?

    By GonzoHog on Jul 11, 2009 @ 4:13pm

  31. When mm and dw committed we then got commitments from London Crawford, Ramon Broadway, and Carlton Salters. Remember? When high profile recruits commit somewhere it creates a buzz. If Dyer, Mack, and Jones were to commit, I bet we’d get some high profile out of state recruits to commit also.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 11, 2009 @ 7:01pm

  32. It certainly seems that Dyer does not want to be a Razorback. As best I can tell, he, Moseley, Jones and Mack have not attended any Arkansas camps or programs and fully participated in them. I really hate to say this, but if these four really don’t want to be Razorbacks, then its best for both htem and UodA that they do go elsewhere. Whether this is the “charm” of Malzohn or that they had rather attend another university, I can’t tell. For one, I would love for them to rethink their situations ans the appearances that they are presenting.

    By bigfoot on Jul 11, 2009 @ 7:33pm

  33. Mr Perfect, that whole Mustain thing worked out really well didn’t it.

    By Ima Hawg on Jul 11, 2009 @ 7:54pm

  34. We’ll get our share of the talent. I just don’t believe it has to come from within the borders of Arkansas first.
Petrino looks for players who can fit into his system, but i’m sure these in-state players that have offers like Dyer, Mack and Jones aren’t recieving any pressure from Petrino or Horton to go ahead and commit right away. It just isn’t their style.
If you show the recruit he’s more important than your own personal sucsess, he’ll have more respect for that in the end.
Besides, if talent does breed talent, i’m sure there’s enough of the 2010 recruits that paid close enough attention to the commits of Wingo, Hamilton and D.D. Jones last year to start looking the UofA’s way.

    By GonzoHog on Jul 11, 2009 @ 11:07pm

  35. What does it working out have to do with the fact that when those top instate recruits committed they brought top out of state recruits with them? Nothing. Thanks for commenting Ima Hawg!!!!!

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 12, 2009 @ 12:11am

  36. Has Parker Mack even been offered by the UA? He may have the academic credentials but does he really have the athletic ability to fit CBP’s style?

    By P Lee on Jul 12, 2009 @ 9:30am

  37. Yes, he’s been offered.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 12, 2009 @ 11:53am

  38. MRPRFCT,

What point are you trying to prove? The fact that Mustain/Williams supposedly encouraged other out of state recruits to commit in ‘06, or that it actually works that way all the time and we should be worried about top in-staters not commiting right away?
If I remember right, Mustain, Williams and Cleveland were some of the last ones to commit that year, so what makes this situation any different?.

    By GonzoHog on Jul 12, 2009 @ 12:11pm

  39. Mack seems to be extremely athletic especially for his size. At least 11 or 12 D1 schools think so including the Hogs. Dyer is without question a top tier back. Jones has the measurables but has played in Class 2A football, not sure how he would perform in 5A or above much less the SEC.

    By samuel settings on Jul 12, 2009 @ 1:14pm

  40. Mr Perfect, I am glad that your opinion has nothing to do with recruiting. Everybody chill…it is going to work out and we will have another solid recruiting class. Focus on the season coming up. It is going to be very exciting and telling as to the direction of the program.

    By Ima Hawg on Jul 12, 2009 @ 2:46pm

  41. Gonzo, you make too much sense for the less intelligent to understand.

    By Ima Hawg on Jul 12, 2009 @ 3:03pm

  42. How dies my comment have nothing to do with recruiting? I’m talking about high school athletes committing to Arkansas. That’s recruiting!!!! Maybe my comment made too much sense for the less intelligent to understand because it absolutely was about recruiting.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 12, 2009 @ 3:07pm

  43. I think your intelligent, MRPRFCT.
I just believe you love to play dumb, so you can create animosity with other people.
It’s ok though, we all eventually grow up some day.

    By GonzoHog on Jul 12, 2009 @ 3:28pm

  44. I think we are all just a little anxious because of the down time right now. Once the Summer practices start and the season starts we will have alot more immediate things to worry about. As the recruits see the campus more and come to some games and see the Hogs on TV (hopefully with big wins over Georgia and A&M) then you should see our recruiting really begin to pick up. It is just that time of year when everything is so slow we start to over analyze and get critical for no apparent reason.

    By blake on Jul 12, 2009 @ 3:36pm

  45. Why hasnt Courtney Haskell attended any camps this year? Some say he could be the the most talented player in the state. I know he has been injured alot but that hasnt stoped this staff from offering other backs that missed most of there junior years. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Oh ya Green has been cleared thats god news Wingo doesnt have to be as good as everyone hopes he is.(at least not this year)

    By Big Boi on Jul 12, 2009 @ 3:47pm

  46. It’s so funny how you guys constantly attack me for no reason. Just read this thread for a perfect example. What’s truly hilarious is in one comment Ima Hawg says my comments aren’t related to recruiting and that I’m unintelligent. How is that comment related to recruiting. Lol guilty of what you accuse me of.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 12, 2009 @ 5:10pm

  47. mrp people try to avoid arguing with you but you dont ever let it rest. you instigate a lot

    By blake on Jul 12, 2009 @ 6:15pm

  48. my opinion is, Petrino might have enough confidence in this years team he doesnt want to accept alot of commitments because he thinks we can look impressive on TV and in games and can upgrade our recruits rather than take a bunch of 3 stars now. I think our current 3 stars could possibly move up and if not they still look to be very good.

    By shawn on Jul 12, 2009 @ 7:01pm

  49. Blake, show me on this thread or even other threads where I start on someone and I’ll show ten times that amount where someone starts on me first.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 12, 2009 @ 7:19pm

  50. MRPRFCT,

What’s so funny is how you seem to think the obvious always needs to be shown to you by others.
Why not just be straight up with other people in your conversations without sounding like an arrogant know it all?
We only live once. Why not just be considerate of others? They’ll certainly be considerate of you as well with a little effort.

    By GonzoHog on Jul 12, 2009 @ 8:49pm

  51. On Courtney Haskell, I also wonder why the news has been so quiet about him. Perhaps the coaching staff is taking a wait and see approach to him. His former coach at Warren, Bo Hembree, and his current coach Barry Lunney Sr. have both said he is the most physically talented player they have ever coached, and that is saying a lot! As far as measurables, he is off the chain! 4.42 laser timed 40, good size, and amazingly strong for someone his size (365 lb bench press). While his durability is a question mark, I think he could end up being one of the top 3 recruits in Arkansas if everything works out right for him this coming season. He will be playing for the defending state champions in the largest division in Arkansas at Bentonville. I feel he has a great chance to rush for well over 2,000 yards this season. If all this happens, I think big name schools will be all over him by the end of the season.

    By SOUTHARKHOGFAN on Jul 12, 2009 @ 8:50pm

  52. Good assessment there, SAHF.
I agree that the coaching staff could be taking a wait and see type approach on Courtney Haskell.
Haskell is shorter than Micheal Smith, and it’s been said that Smith is now up to 185 lbs.
So if it’s possible for Smith to effectively carry his weight, i’m sure it would easy for Haskell to carry a few more pounds than that.

    By GonzoHog on Jul 12, 2009 @ 9:29pm

  53. Opps! sorry about that. I meant to say that Smith is shorter than Haskell.

    By GonzoHog on Jul 12, 2009 @ 9:32pm

  54. The obvious? Well, if I’m going to be accused of something i’d like to see example(s), you know, evidence to prove your point, facts, not just an opinion based on arguments from months ago. My evidence is this thread. I’m called unintelligent and immature by you and Ima Hawg FOR NO REASON. I didn’t attack you two. I didn’t question your intelligence or maturity level. All of my comments in this thread are all about recruiting. In fact, the first comment on here that’s nit recruiting related is Ima Hawg’s comment about me! You guys should get the plank out of your own eye before worrying about the speck in my eye.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 5:45am

  55. Try this on for a crazy thought
    2009 W = 9, L = 3
The Razorbacks win all except Alabama, Florida and LSU. There are two games on the cusp that must be won to make this happen: South Carolina and Georgia.

This is based on improvement of one touchdown per game from both Offense and Defense.

I think this is very doable. What do you think?

    By bigfoot on Jul 13, 2009 @ 6:04am

  56. Bigfoot, what if everyone else on our schedule improves a TD on offense and a TD on defense. Remember, as we improve so does everyone else.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 6:51am

  57. Hey, with this weather, no worthwhole news, etc., I got to do something to keep this old gray matter active

    By bigfoot on Jul 13, 2009 @ 7:32am

  58. MR PRFCT

i dont think georgia, south car, ole miss, miss state, and actually alabama will improve over last season.

i think fla and lsu do improve. a&m probably improves.

i think our jump on both sides of the ball are going to make this one of the most interesting years we’ve had in a while.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 7:47am

  59. For goodness sake lets avoid another Mustang. I will admit the UofA mishandled the situation badly. Perhaps USC has shown the family they cannot run their football program.

    By Larry Pierce on Jul 13, 2009 @ 8:35am

  60. Why won’t ole miss improve. They also get another year in HDN’s system. They lost some OL, but so did we. They lost their top OL, but so did we. They have a QB that played really well as a sophomore returning. They may not improve, but they’re not going to be worse than they were last year. alabama loses a lot on offense, but their defense will be even better than they were last year. georgia may not improve, but they won’t be any worse. south Carolina is always a mystery. How can miss state not improve? they were horrible last year. I don’t see lsu improving so much. Finally, les miles’ coaching is bringing down their talent. Florida will be awesome, but we all knew that.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 8:43am

  61. I’d say a good year for us will be 7-5 and an exceptional year will be 8-4. I’d be slightly disappointed if we went 6-6 and furious if we missed out on yet another bowl game.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 8:46am

  62. Ole miss lost a top left tackle and a bookend DE. those are two cornerstones for a football team. i think snead is big time overrated.

south car lost tons off of their defense last year. they still don’t have a QB.

georgia lost moreno and stafford. they are going to have a fall off, at least some.

i don’t see bama getting ten wins this year. defense will be good, but offense is what’s holding them back for this season. maybe never again, but at least this year there’s a chance to get back at them.

lsu will be much improved imo. jordan jefferson is going to be good. they have tons of skill people.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 8:47am

  63. oh and miss state is going to try to run dan mullen’s offense w/ no receivers (at least all true frosh), no qb worth mentioning. they will have growing pains you better believe it.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 8:49am

  64. bigfoot, I agree with you on the 9-3. BUT, if we beat Georgia pretty handily, I think we have a shot at Alabama. I’m still going to go with 9-3. Reason being, there will probably be a hiccup along the way.

IMO, it’s going to depend on Mallett’s play.

    By Mike on Jul 13, 2009 @ 10:34am

  65. AR will be the most improved team in the SEC this year. It will be a close competition for most improved with LSU in my opinion.

Not every team improves every offseason. It would be nice if that were true but it isn’t. GA will have the most fall off with what they lost and all the injuries they have been having the last two years and still continuing.

Ole Miss and Bama I believe will also fall off some. It is a matter of opinion and it appears a few others agree with me on this as well. I think that these two teams had good seasons last year. The best Ole Miss has had in quite some time and I do not expect to see them do better but just about the same this year. Bama could still do as well as they did last year but I think to get there they will have to win way closer games. So in record they may appear the same but it will not be done as easily so I would say that would not be an improvement.

    By blake on Jul 13, 2009 @ 10:39am

  66. The only thing about OM is their sched is just so darn easy.

but i know ark is going to beat them, bama and lsu will both own them this year, too.

OM will finish 4th in the west unless auburn steps up, which that is possible, too.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 10:48am

  67. i feel pretty darn good about mallett.

i think he is going to throw a lot of picks, esp early on, but i think he’ll throw enough td passes to make up for it. then bobby p will get on him enough and they’ll get those bad throws cleaned up more and more as the year goes on.

if brod green gets elig like it looks like he will, and the D plays up to what DJ williams said they should in the paper today, then we have a real shot at 9-3.

  68. I BELIEVE!!!!! We are gonna be the most improved team in the country!!! We’re gonna go 13-0. Now, I know some folks will point to the inexperience at QB, the fact we’re replacing the best center ever at Arkansas with someone that’s never played center, that our OL was second WORSE in the nation in the sacks allowed stat, that our defense was the worst in the SEC last year, that our kicking was awful and is still unproven, that we’re undersized at the DT spots, that we’ll be relying on a bunch of underclassmen, that we couldn’t run consistently, or stop the run at all, that our schedule is really tough this year, but so what!!! Forget logic!!! I demand we win and win now or there will be hell to pay, CBP!!!!! Summertime delerium.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 11:21am

  69. there’s plenty of reason for optimism.

our dline is most def heavier and better than a year ago.

our running game will improve ten fold.

our oline will be better and deeper.

you can see it in the player comments about how much more on target they are this year than last now that they know the program/know the system. they can focus on getting better instead of trying to keep their heads afloat.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 11:30am

  70. MRP I think we rest out case. Your last comment is exactly why nobody likes you. At all. Not even a slight bit. And since you like to play this game that post had nothing to do with recruiting.

But mine will. AR currently has the #45 recruiting class according to scout and they dont seem to like the recruits we have signed so far. However two have not been ranked yet so it could improve a little.

    By blake on Jul 13, 2009 @ 11:44am

  71. our class so far has been a great foundation. and that’s how you have to look at it.

we got two great kids/athletes at the TE/DE (the kid from catholic and the other from joplin.

we got a big mobile olineman to go along w/ feldt who is going to be a stud.

we got a very solid DT already.

the chris smith kid is going to be a player on defense, just watch his video.

    and a good kicker.

i don’t see how we can complain too much right now. i am very happy w/ where we are right now.

we aren’t over committed nor undercommitted.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 11:46am

  72. i could really care less how we end up being ranked in recruiting.

i think now with the program we have our coaches know what types of body they need (as well as mentally) and they go get that player.

and with veltkamp and the quality of our coaching we are going to be just fine. i can’t wait to see what these kids end up being in this program.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 11:53am

  73. I agree I think the players committed currently are exactly what we need. They all are big. They all are key spots of need. And I also think they all will get more respect as they play their Sr. seasons.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 12:47pm

  76. Our OL will be better and deeper? Yes, it will be deeper, but better? They better be because they were awful last year. Do you think there will be no drop off at the Center position? We are going from an All-American to someone that’s never played Center before. We are moving a Guard to Right Tackle because we don’t have a RT on campus right mow that has decent enough footwork to play in the SEC. Our DL is bigger, but they’re still small compared to other SEC teams. Our running game will improve, but ten fold? 10x’s? What? Michael Smith gonna rush for 10,000 yards this year? ole miss is also gaining a year in HDN’s system. Remember, last year was their first year in that system too. Just like us. Why won’t they improve by leaps and bounds?

On recruiting, Blake you use to say how happy you are that we are recruiting top talent (4-5 star recruits) nationally. Where’s the top talent? Now, you’re singing a different tune because we aren’t getting that top talent like you said we would. I’m happy with this class despite the lack of star power because I trust CBP’s evaluations over the recruiting services.

Lastly, as far as everyone not liking me? I COULDN’T care less.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 12:50pm

  77. mrprfct, brah.

as partial as i am to the center position, it is much more easily fillable than guard or tackle. i am not worried about it.

an no, m smith won’t literally rush for 10k yards this year. but they will be vastly improved. he will be much more rested. and we will have multiple options around the goaline.

and you don’t seriously believe ole nutt’s system is quite as complicated as CBP’s do you? please step back and look at that comment again.

as good as CBP and co. were last year at eval. kids before the recruiting services got a hold of them, i believe the kids we have now will all be 4 and 3 stars and will rise in the rankings over the next 6 mos.

and i believe our majority of 4 stars/5 stars will not be committed to us until after the season. we will finish strong again, but only after a nice showing on the turf this year, which i believe we will have

    By Razorback56 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 12:56pm

  78. The center position maybe the hardest position on the OL. The center has to make ALL the line calls. I’d say that playing center is just as hard as protecting the QBs blindside. HDN’s system isn’t as complicated as CBP’s, but it was still new to ole miss so with that said they too had to adjust to it and be even better at it this year. Remember, Snead played inconsistently the first half of their season last year and I believe that will happen to Mallett this year. Hopefully, it won’t cost us any games like it did ole miss last year.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 1:30pm

  79. Bro, even as a former center i will no where near put their importance up there w/ a tackle or good guard.

us losing luigs is no where near as big a loss as losing oher.

there is a reason top OT’s go in the top 5 picks of the nfl draft and centers hardly ever go in the first round.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 1:42pm

  80. When’s the last time a guard has gone in the first round? OTs, particularly LTs, are important simply because they protect the QBs blindside. A great Center is hard to replace.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 1:51pm

  81. There were 4 OTs and 2 OCs drafted in the first round this past draft.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 1:56pm

  82. this last draft was not typical.

and actually most of the tackles are moved down to guard.

most teams don’t even draft centers. they move them from tackle to guard and guard to tackle.

our oline will be fine. not worried about the center position at this juncture.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 2:05pm

  83. MRPFCT, we had the second worse OL in the nation and the worst DL in the SEC yet we barely missed going to a bowl.

With an improvement at both, a better kicking game, and a better QB we can get to 9-3.

    By Mike on Jul 13, 2009 @ 2:30pm

  84. As far as i’m concerned we would have won two extra games if we had had a big back that was worth anything.

we have addressed that need and I think it will give us at least two extra wins this year.

throw in a far better situation as far as QB (i don’t car whether he’s untested or not) and a good receiving corps that is a year older with even more depth (see cobi hamilton) and an oline that has had a year to learn how to pass block. i am really excited about the offense.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 2:47pm

  85. I agree with the improvements I believe this team has made in each unit.

Here is a nice link from Fridays player interviews and coach Veltkamp.

    http://nwanews.com/blogs/slophouse/2009/07/13/video-hogs-nearing-start-of-fall-camp/

I also like most of us know all about that Sack total and why many of those sacks occurred. This sound familiar? THROW THE BALL AWAY DICK!! THROW IT AWAY!! SACK!!

Either way I said in my opinion it will be AR and LSU vying for the most improved teams in the SEC this year. Not the nation. And I think I am right…it is my opinion after all. The RBs are Deeper. The WRs are deeper. The O line is Deeper. The Secondary is much deeper. The LBs are deeper. The DL is deeper. Heck even the TEs are deeper. And of course we all know the QBs are deeper. Experience or not Mallett, Wilson, Youngblood, and the young Mitchell coming in all are 4 competitive QBs that have different strengths and weaknesses and all were recruited by BP. That says something if you ask me. They all can do things he wants to get done. So with every position on this team more experienced and deeper we should be good to go. And yes I do believe our QB situation is more experienced most are in their Second year under BP the coach that recruited them. Maybe not game time experience, but they are conditioned, coached, and ready to go. I like the excitement from the players on that video. And I share their excitement. Call me a BELIEVER! We will be better this year. KNOW THAT!

    By blake on Jul 13, 2009 @ 3:15pm

  86. Mallett really does show the weight he dropped. Man dudes face looks like a skeletons right now. But he also looks very in shape. Lucas Miller threw out NC. That is a nice goal for a team to have. If they set that as their goal this year and do everything they can and continue that next year and the year after we will be getting where we want to. Most teams in the category Arkansas is in would never set that as a goal.

    By blake on Jul 13, 2009 @ 3:22pm

  87. I also really like the 6,000 lb rock idea. They keep chipping away at it and it signifies the long term goal of where they are trying to get and what it takes to get there.

    By blake on Jul 13, 2009 @ 3:23pm

  88. I noticed that comment by Miller…hey he’s a believer. I also agree that Ark and LSU should be the two most improved teams in the SEC. Don’t know about nationally, not really worried about that right now. Lets just go win some games and compete for SEC West. Oh, and I do think Ole Miss should be pretty good, just highly overrated. Unfortunately they will also have the most favorable (and weakest) schedule in the SEC. Look for BIG dropoff next year with the Rebs and lots of familiar excuses.

    By Ima Hawg on Jul 13, 2009 @ 3:38pm

  89. hey guys this is kinda random, but I just noticed arkansas is not playing LSU on a friday but a Saturday. Why is that and why is at 8 est and not in the afternoon

By Hog Fan In TN on Jul 13, 2009 @ 4:02pm

  90. We were also very close to losing western illinois and louisiana-monroe.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 4:05pm

  91. So… LSU almost lost to Troy but they are still picked by some to be in the contention for the West.

    By blake on Jul 13, 2009 @ 4:39pm

  92. Yes, and we won our 5 games last year by a total of 16 points.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 4:41pm

  93. Yes… and?

    By blake on Jul 13, 2009 @ 4:49pm

  94. And now we are going to go from winning 5 games, which includes come from behind wins over western Illinois and Louisiana-Monroe, by 16 points to winning 5 games in the rugged SEC.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 4:56pm

  95. MRP-

Can you describe the ’system’ you keep talking about with regards to HDN? I watched the guy coach the Hogs for 10 years and I’d be very hard-pressed to describe Nutt’s ’system’.

Concerning the run defense: I have to believe our front seven will be much better in this area come the season. Our backers are bigger, stronger, more experienced. I’m not really concerned about how small our dline is in comparison. Our kids really want it…think Tony Cherico. And I’d take a Cherico over Mount ‘Highly-Overrated’ Cody any day of the week and twice on Saturday.

    By Hawgfan100 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 5:57pm

  96. Mr Perfect, you make an excellent point about trying to get everyone to lower their expectations based on last year’s results rather than optimism for the coming season. I’m sending back my season tickets. Can I chill on your sofa while we’re watching Arkansas lose and begging ole Houston Dale back.

    By Ima Hawg on Jul 13, 2009 @ 6:08pm

  97. The differences in how much each SEC team will improve is like night and day.
Each team will be different compared to last seasons results.

First question: Who will be the most improved over last season?
My answer would be Arkansas, simply because of the talent level we have coming back, and the key components we have coming in at DB,RB, and LB. And the fact that we finally have an upgrade at the QB position.

LSU would be 2nd in my opinion, simply because they were closer to being a very good team last season than a lot of people gave them credit for. The QB didn’t work out as planned, so a new one was brought into the picture later on. He will be improved this season. They also have a dynomite new QB coming in named Russell Shepard.

Auburn will have to make some adjustments, but not as many as Arkansas made last season. Their defense should be solid, and their offense is familiar enough with the spread package to pick up on what Malzahn wants.

Tennessee will improve under Kiffin because they have more talent coming back than the UofA did last season. They also have the #1 rated high school RB coming in.

Kentucky will improve slightly with Randell Cobb at WR and Hartline at QB.

These teams will be about the same, more or less, compared to last season:

    Georgia
    Vanderbilt
    Florida
    South Carolina
    Miss State
    Ole Miss
    Alabama

It doesn’t garantee any more wins, but the gap between Arkansas and the list of teams above (6) that are on our schedual this season will close dramatically.

    By GonzoHog on Jul 13, 2009 @ 7:29pm

  98. You let your hatred make you look foolish. Whether you hate or like a coach, he has a system. Even high school coaches have a system.

No, you can’t come over to my house. I expect us to win more games than we lose. I’m not saying anything different than what most college football reporters and preseason magazines are saying. I don’t want HDN back as coach. I’m satisfied with CBP and the job he is doing. I don’t apologize for being realistic.

Gonzo, that truly is an awesome post. Great analysis. Well done. I’m impressed.

My thing is one reason ole miss did so well last year was because the SEC west was down. I don’t expect the west to be down this year.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 8:49pm

  99. “You let your hatred make you look foolish. Whether you hate or like a coach, he has a system. Even high school coaches have a system.”

Eh? No hatred here (for the record: back when it mattered, I would have been described as a ‘hugger’ not a ‘hater’). Your assumption of my ‘hatred’ makes you look foolish and arrogant.

Everyone here knows every coach has a ’system’. Your statement of the painfully obvious makes you look pedantic and arrogant. We seeing a pattern here?

I posed a legitimate question to you in a respectful and courteous manner. I deserved better than your presumptive and rude response (especially from someone who complains often about how rudely and disrespectfully he’s been treated on this board).

I’m still waiting for your thoughtful response. Personally, I think an objective examination of the available evidence would lead to the conclusion that Nutt’s ’system’ was haphazard, narrow, and ultimately ineffective at best. I do think you have some talent at analysis and looked forward to what you had to say on the matter, whether I agreed with you or not.

Unfortunately, I think you are also much too impressed with your ability to be a sarcastic ass. Put it aside; it serves little useful purpose and makes you look foolish.

    Now, what about Nutt’s ’system’?

    By Hawgfan100 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 9:24pm

  100. Ineffective at best? Really? That statement made me lose some brain cells. My IQ isn’t 131 anymore, folks.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 13, 2009 @ 9:41pm

  101. “Ultimately ineffective at best”, MRP. Can’t help you with those lost brain cells but am still willing to listen to your case. Who knows? You might be able to sway me…;^)

    By Hawgfan100 on Jul 13, 2009 @ 9:46pm

  102. I am one of those that believe we can really make a move up this year. With 18 starter returning (tops in the SEC by far except for Florida, which returns the same), anything less than 8 wins in the regular season will be a dissapointment to me. 6-7 wins would be minimal progress if any. It would probably mean a 2-6 or 3-5 mark in the SEC, and that is NOT moving forward at all. While I believe in tempering enthusiasm with reality, I feel the coaching staff is too good to settle for mediocrity. Its not like they are building the program from scratch. It was a consistent winner under HDN, but couldn’t get over the hump from good to great. I believe the future is NOW. Many ar saying that we will win only 6-7 games this season, but will cotend for the title the following season. If we don’t make some noise this season, what in the world makes you think that we will be much better the following season? We will lose our best DE and DT (Sheppard and Davis) after this season as well as other starters on defense. Our best RB (Smith)will be gone. DJ Williams will likely be gone. So will Crawford and Miller. And like it or not, if Mallett has a big breakout year, there is a pretty good possibility that he will enter the draft, ala Mark Sanchez. His armstrength will have NFL scouts drooling. So the future is now.
As far as breaking down our offensive strengths and potential weaknesses, I think our skill position players overall are as good as we have had in a long time. Our RB corp is deep and talented, with a variety of different styles to choose from for each game situation that may come up. Our receiving corps is as deep as I ever remember it being. DJ Williams is the best pass catching TE we have ever had. The depth is not so great at TE, but I believe that Ben Cleveland will be a factor this season. He is very talented, and has had time to shake off the injuries that have disrupted his career. Our QBs are as deep and talented as I can remember as well. They just need some SEC experience. That leaves the offensive line, and this is the question mark of the offense. I believe they will be much improved over last season, even with the loss of Luigs. Last season they were adjusting from being a group of run blockers to a system that requires both run and pass blocking. I think that with a full season and two springs under their belt, it will make a world of difference. The return of Mitch Petrus, as well as the additions of Oden and Thomas give us much better depth than last season.
Special teams is a big question mark. I feel that we couldn’t be any worse than last year! I am hoping that Tejada goes back to his freshman form rather than the terrible year he had last year. He has the talent. Just hope he can get the mental part down. D. Johnson is a talented kick returner, and there are others, possibly a incoming freshman, that will help in this department.
As far as the defense, I think it will be vastly improved over last season because of being more experienced in a new system, along with returning almost every starter, all of whom will be stronger and more experienced. The incoming class, notably the secondary, will help also. While the defense took its lumps last season, there were some very promising sign as well. They held statistically the #1 offense in the nation (Tulsa) to a FG in the second half, they shut down LSU in the 4th qtr to help the comeback, they held Ole Miss under their average, etc.
Anyway, I am daring to believe that we will have a great year. Not calling for 12-0, LOL, although I would take it. But I believe that we will win at least 8 games regular season, with a shot at 9 or even 10 if everything falls our way. If we only had Ole Miss’s schedule!!!! But, the SEC is always rugged, and we drop Texas for A&M, not a bad swap. Here’s to the 2009 season!!

    By SOUTHARKHOGFAN on Jul 13, 2009 @ 10:03pm

  103. Please let the season begin…soon! The heat is getting to me. And I can’t seem to stay away from this stupid message board and responding to Hog Hater MRP. I mean the guy won’t even give me some hospitality after he made me give up my season tickets because he thinks Arkansas is not gonna improve and Ole Miss is gonna whup us.

    By Ima Hawg on Jul 13, 2009 @ 10:22pm

  104. I never said we weren’t going to improve and I never said ole miss was gonna whup us. You’re a liar, Ima Hawg.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 5:45am

  105. SAHF, great post. Remember though we also trade kentucky for georgia. We went 2-6 in a weak SEC west last year. I believe our division will much improved and tougher than last year. Going from 2-6 last year to 3-5 this year would be a bigger improvement than many think.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 5:49am

  106. This is the thing that really worries me about Georgia: the fact that they will have already played Ariz State (no slouch of a pac 10 opponent) and South carolina.

so they will almost be in midseason form by the time they get to us.

that’s a pretty tough way to start a season for georgia, but they will have already had their nose to the grindstone by the time they come to fayetteville, and we will have only played a subdivision team.

the georgia game is going to be bigtime important. a win there and we could have a real chance at doing something. a loss could really hurt our chances.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 14, 2009 @ 8:44am

  107. Good point Razorback56

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 10:01am

  108. Raz56 I worry a little about that also.

But I also think we have an advantage. BP will probably play Mallett, Wilson, and maybe even Youngblood in that first game. He will also probably play a lot of players at other positions as subs also. So GA may not have a very good idea of what is going to come at them. Where we will have film from Ariz St and SC to look at and also have the extra week to prepare for them coming to our house. It will still be considered an upset game but we have a lot of things in our favor when I think about the GA game situation.

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 10:17am

  109. good point, blake.

we will have plenty of tape on them because i feel they are going to have to show a lot to get two wins out of their first two games, and hopefully we won’t have to show too much in our first ballgame.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 14, 2009 @ 10:19am

  110. Exactly!

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 10:20am

  111. It seems like most folks on here are picking us to beat georgia. They have us going 9-3 with loses to lsu, bama, and florida.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 10:24am

  112. I am feeling anywhere from the 7-5 to 9-3 range. It really depends on how the ball bounces for us honestly. Our schedule is awful but I believe we can and will win all 4 of our OOC games. Then I also believe we win over Auburn, Miss State, and South Carolina. That gets us to 7 there.

I am not saying anything is a given but those seven I believe we win.

Then if we get one from Bama, LSU, Georiga, or Ole Miss we are at 8 and if get two we are at 9.

We will NOT be getting one against FL. But hey I wish we would!

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 10:33am

  113. I can agree with you there, Blake.

  114. and earlier i said UGA was playing ariz stat, i meant Okla state. they play ariz st. last year.

osu will be even tougher than ariz st. i believe.

ark could very well lose to georg, fla, even auburn, ole miss, lsu, and south car.

not doubt. it’s a tough sched in a tough league. hoping for the best though.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 14, 2009 @ 11:07am

  115. Why are there at least 6 underclassmen saying they will be at a SENIOR camp? Why would this be allowed. I talked to a lady at U of A. She said they were not invited but are being allowed to come. She could offer no other info than that. Is this just a money making ploy to increase revenue? If it is a Senior only camp, then just have seniors there. Boo to false advertisement….
P.S. I understand that Courtney Haskell, a SENIOR, will be in attendance as of now…

By Baffled in AR on Jul 14, 2009 @ 11:16am

  116. Baffled I think if we have talented players visiting then bring them on. They may be coming to visit and workout some but not be part of the senior camp. Who knows.

Raz56 glad you caught that it is Ok State I was repeating after thinking to myself is that right? Ok State should definitely help us because we can see what weaknesses GA has in their pass coverage and try to exploit it.

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 1:17pm

  117. blake, another good point. ok state has some serious receiving weapons so it’ll be good to see them against SEC secondary speed.

if the kids are juniors but are d1 quality players i say bring them in.

but if they are going to do that they should change the name to Senior/Elite camp.

but whatever, i’m really not worried about it.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 14, 2009 @ 1:42pm

  118. Actually, ok state only has one proven receiving threat, Dez Bryant, while the rest of the receiving corp is unknown.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 1:55pm

  119. MRP Byrant alone is a big enough threat, but those other receivers will be known after they play a couple of games.

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:02pm

  120. MRP, dez bryant is about the best receiver in the country. he would be a hog probably if it weren’t for nutjuber.

and i believe ok state has an excellent tight end.

just because we only know one of their receivers’ names doesn’t mean they aren’t threats. i thought they were pretty deep actually. they have a good QB, too

    By Razorback56 on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:07pm

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:14pm

Dez Bryant had 87 receptions last year
    Bo Bowling (WR) had 10
    Jamal Mosley (TE) had 5
    DeMarcus Conner (WR) had 3
    Hubert Anyiam (WR) had 3

that’s ok state’s returning receiving corp

as Blake recently said to me, “I rest my case”

    By Razorback56 on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:24pm

  125. How am I full of myself?

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:25pm

  126. I’m just informed. I don’t make uninformed statements. I don’t have uninformed opinions. You may disagree with what I say, but no one can never say I’m uninformed.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:27pm

  127. “No one can never say…”

WOW! Great use of the double negative. Where do they teach that?

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:35pm

  128. LOL Blake, you correcting someone’s grammar is hilarious. That’s all you can come up with, “no one likes you” “you have bad grammar” lol

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:40pm

  129. Informed. Not really. Oklahoma State has an explosive offense system. Even with just Bryant (which it will not be for long) they are expected to be very explosive offensively. They are getting love in the preseason rankings also. The point being made was that seeing GA play them will give the Hogs some good ideas of GA’s holes in their D to exploit. Nothing more or less. You made an argument with Raz56 for the fun of it I guess. Are we Ok State fans? I don’t think so. So beyond knowing their top player(s) and their style of play who cares to know more? I know enough and IM A GROWN MAN! But I don’t care enough to try and make arguments over things that people are merely discussing with one another. We are sharing opinions and thoughts which are solely ours. You are so informed but I think almost everyone frequenting here will agree that your “opinions” are impossible to make out. No one understands where you stand on the Hogs, Rebels, and no one understands your manic swings of negative to positive to negative again posts. You are truly an odd ball MRP. Odd.

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:41pm

  130. mrp you are so cool. all the kids wanna be like you. i wish i could be so snide and quick witted. you’re the coolest cat around.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:47pm

  131. Dude “no one can never say..” its hard not to poke fun at that especially when you are the grammar kind in here pointing out when people make mistakes ALL the TIME. Can’t take your own medicine?

That’s not like you and your thick alligator skin. mr. PERFECT

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:52pm

  132. Which post of mine is negative? I’ve constantly said I’m a Razorback fan. That’s where I stand. I believe ole miss will be good next year. Does that somehow make me a fan of theirs? Are you an lsu fan because you think they’re gonna be good next year? Blake, I’m not like you. I don’t think every move CBP makes is genius, that every recruit we sign will be a monster, or that we’ll win every game. That’s the difference between me and you. I hope for those things, but know it’s not going to happen. Every move CBP makes isn’t genius, every recruit we sign won’t be a stud, and no we won’t win every game. I’m realistic. I’m objective. I don’t fault you for who you are. If you like it I love it. I don’t have to be like you to be a Hog fan.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:54pm

  133. I know, razorback56. Thanks for noticing. Blake. Always? You want to show some examples of always? I post nearly everyday so show me 7 examples of me correcting someone’s grammar. That’s a week’s worth. Surely, you can easily come up with 7 examples from the past week, dude.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 2:58pm

  134. I don’t mind being corrected. I just think it’s funny you’d correct me considering the many mistakes you make. “pot calls kettle black for a thousand, Alex.”

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:01pm

  135. I believe earlier today I said where I stand on wins and it is not even close to winning every game.

I support BP but have never acted like he is perfect.

I also time and time again say when I post it is my opinion. As far as negative. You mention peoples IQ being low. You correct their spelling and grammar (obviously you don’t like it when it is done to you).

You argue that you are always “right” “informed” and “win” arguments/debates.

You cut people down all the time.

You are hot and cold in your moods like dare I say a female certain times of the month. Nobody knows which MRP they are getting. Earlier today you seemed normal. And then you start arguing with people and being negative AKA always pissing people off and being tacky and snippy. You say you don’t do these things and try to defend yourself day in and day out. But when was the last time you went a day without being told the things you do and denying them? Does this not get old. Really?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. In that case my friend you may be insane. But then again we all try time and time again to reason with you and tell you the things you need to stop doing when we should not care and just not respond or by any mind to your posts and I guess maybe that makes us the insane ones.

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:06pm

  136. Blake, you’re a liar. I’ve never mentioned someone’s IQ being low. Never. I don’t mind when someone corrects me and i posted that just the other day. When have i cut someone down? Isn’t your post cutting me down? blake, you’re guilty of what you despise just like a gay preacher preaching against homosexuality. There’s never any proof of what you all accuse me of, just accusations. lastly, when’s the last time you tried to reason with me? the difference with me and all you guys is i don’t hold grudges. everyday is a new day and if you post something i disagree with, i don’t hate you, but i’ll post my disagreement. just like the many times i’ve posted that i’ve agreed with other’s post, including the ppl that hate me.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:17pm

  137. In the words of the great Rodney King.. “can’t we just all get along”

    By Mike on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:22pm

  138. Mr Perfect, I am not a liar, just not a jerk like you.

    By Ima Hawg on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:22pm

  139. Ima Hawg, you said I said Arkansas wasn’t going to improve and that ole miss was gonna whup us. I never said that. That makes you a liar.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:25pm

  140. Mike, I try, but I get attacked because guys hold grudges because I have the nerve to disagree with them.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:27pm

  141. Never any “proof”. We don’t care enough to go finding your old ridiculous posts and pasting them to read again. You have mentioned IQ’s on numerous occasions. You do cut people down. And yes everyday numerous people tell you the garbage you do. And yes everyday you deny it. The last post I wrote to you is something that you can deny all you want but is more truth about you on this board than you clearly want to admit to or deal with. Man just keep doing what your doing. Who cares. Consider your opinions and posts not read by me from now on..

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:27pm

  142. Okay then, make a prediction for the Ole Miss game now.

    By Ima Hawg on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:28pm

  143. Prove your accusations, Blake. I’ll fess up to any and every accusation if you just provide proof. I’ve never mentioned other ppls IQs. Never. You show one time where I did and I’ll leave this blog forever. Let me save you sometime. I never did. So you’re a liar, but I don’t hate you for it. It’s ok. One day you’ll learn holding grudges isn’t good to do. Especially, when the other person doesn’t care.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:31pm

  144. Barring injuries to both teams and such and I reserve the right to change this because of factors that aren’t known right now (in case there’s a prediction contest on here). I see a close game with ole miss pulling out the win due to snead’s experience and ole miss’s homefield advantage. I do believe we will win the 2010 clash in Fayetteville. In fact I see our 2010 Razorbacks in the BCS.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:36pm

  145. Ima Hawg

Hogs by 10 at Ole Miss. By that game Ole Miss will have dropped a game or two they should not have and the fans will be back to “party contests” and who cares about the game. Hogs will walk into their stadium and spread the ball in the passing game. Run the ball with numerous backs and styles. And at the end of the day the Hogs will win 31-21.

Nutt will not be seen as King much longer in Oxford after this season especially with their high expectations and the media starting them all in the top 10. Really? They lost to Vandy and SC last year and they are top10 this year? OK.

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:38pm

  146. MRP, there you go. Nutt lover, Hog hater. And that’s NO LIE!

    By Ima Hawg on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:39pm

  147. LOL I’m just not delusional like some. I guess I should predict we win every game from here to eternity to prove my loyalty to the Razorbacks. I guess ppl on here that think we’ll lose to Florida in the swamp are hog haters and urban meyer lovers.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:43pm

  148. i just find it ludicrous that OM needed the refs to beat us last year even if we were at home.

it was our worst team in years.

we have filled so many gaps in this offseason i think we are going to blow OM out. i can’t wait for oct. 24th

    By Razorback56 on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:48pm

  149. Ima Hawg, you still didn’t prove that i said “Arkansas will not improve” and “ole miss will blow us out”. You’re still a liar and I WIN!!!!

    Thanks fir participating though.

P.S. You kinda looked foolish there. Again thanks!!!!

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:52pm

  150. you just can’t beat mrprfct. he’s just too cool for school.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:53pm

  151. Word up!!!!

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:58pm

  152. Razorback56, I would prefer a last second win over OM by one point. And to top it off, I hope Nutt will see a penalty that wasn’t called, then flips out.

    By Mike on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:58pm

  153. I think this Hog team (players and staff) are the only ones that know and can determine how good they will be this year. Many times comparisons are made to last year and so on, but this team is a new team. These players are new players and they could do what Bama did last year… come out of nowhere. There are a lot of improvements that have been made. The OL is bigger, deeper, and I believe will be much better not just a little better. The secondary with Leon, Crim, Winston, Williams, Gordon, Etc will have a new look. No telling how new of a look because the current DBs have made big improvements also but many of these new names WILL play and start. The QB and RB situation is much improved. The WRs are as good as we have ever had! The LB are really going to surprise people and the DL also I think is really going to surprise people. I am an optimist and when it comes to the Hogs I do have to try and take a step back. But even doing so just look at the additions and growth in each of these areas and you have to believe that there is no telling how good they could be. Over the last 10 years the Hogs rarely have been expected to be good but we have been close to great at times. If things click under BP and these players we could be great this year. Just have to sit back and see I guess.

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 3:59pm

  154. Okay, what the heezie does “word up” mean?

    By Mike on Jul 14, 2009 @ 4:01pm

  155. I’m going to go mow my lawn. When I get back we’re all going to sing coombyya.

    By Mike on Jul 14, 2009 @ 4:11pm

  156. Mike Word Up is not used anymore. Now people that still even remotely use that phrase have shortened it just “Word” by itself.

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 4:15pm

  157. You’re right, Blake, but I don’t care for the shortened “Word”.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 14, 2009 @ 4:30pm

  158. So Ron, what’s the weather like in Jordan, today?

    By Mike on Jul 14, 2009 @ 5:49pm

  159. Hot as hell I’m sure.

Ron aren’t you moving from Jordan? Or have already?

    By blake on Jul 14, 2009 @ 6:04pm

  160. Our Ol will be better “over all” than it was last season, due to most along the OL being a year older, stronger and knowing the offense better.
We also gain an OL’man that had to sit last year (I can’t think of his name at the moment) that was a contributer in 07.
We’ll be deeper at TB and more experienced at WR, TE will be a real strength and our QB play will also be improved.
Our defense can’t be much worse than it was last Fall and with our recruiting classes starting to contribute I believe that our depth will be better than it has in a looooong time.
Additionally, our DB’s will be upgraded over anything we’ve had at ArkansasRichardson and Batman Carroll roamed the field for the Hogs.
All in all I would expect our Razorbacks to make improvements by leaps and bounds compared to the level of competition we will see on the opposing sidelines in the SEC.

    By Hogules on Jul 14, 2009 @ 8:28pm

  161. Alabama with be Alabama. They just reload. We are not quite at their level yet. BP has made a lot of progress, but needs to continue it for another year or two.

Florida is Florida. As long a Tebow holds up, they will look like NC’s.

LSU will NOT lose to us three years in a row. I would really love this, I just don’t see that happening. There is too much talent there. And they will point to us.

The rest of the SEC? We CAN win. Our non-conference games? we can beat A&M and run the table. I see 9-3. Oh boy, I would love 13-0, though. But I see three conference loses and that wou’t get us to Atlanta. Maybe next year.

    By bigfoot on Jul 14, 2009 @ 9:56pm

  162. I see arkansas razorbacks going all the way but we probably lose to Florida and LSU. Alabama is not no threat we hold up on defense I see us beating them we could of scored 28 points on them last year if we had a big back and take back Dick Inconsident pass leading to 3 interception. Of Ye of little faith don’t let down on the razorbacks believe what we can do and we will accomplish alot we should of won the Kentucky game last year Deanthony Curtus Fumble we should of won Ole Miss by a bad call and could of won the Miss State game that would of been 8 wins for Arkansas last year so it can go both ways win coin is up in the air

    By razorfan on Jul 15, 2009 @ 1:39am

  163. Hogules,

The lineman you’re thinking of is Mitch Petrus.
    ————————————————–
I can’t see us being better than 8-4. We were 6 points away from going 8-4, but 9 points from going 1-11. I think 9-3 is too big of a goal. Let’s not let our heads get too big because if we do, we will be disappointed by the 7-5 season that we are more than likely to have.

    By Qwerty on Jul 15, 2009 @ 10:01am

  164. From the roundtable discussion 4.

    http://arkansas.scout.com/a.z?s=10&p=2&c=879186

Brian Harbach says Arkansas could be the team to shock everyone this year.

    By Mike on Jul 15, 2009 @ 10:12am

  165. And Chuck Oliver was tempted to pick Arkansas as the team to shock.

    By Mike on Jul 15, 2009 @ 10:17am

  166. the SEC west is the best conference in america, no doubt.

the things that saban is doing recruiting wise at bama are going to have them unseat fla as sec champs in my opinion.

LSU is still going to be LSU.

arkansas is going to play our best ball since lou holtz was coach. i believe we can compete for a conf title legitimately w/ lsu and bama, though.

i believe we can do it this year, too.

but the sched is really tough, no doubt.

at ole miss, bama, fla, and lsu. yikes.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 15, 2009 @ 10:31am

  167. The schedule is the biggest obstacle this year, but the games still have to be played and if our offense can get on the board early and our D can play well or cause some turnovers there is no telling how we can do on the road. It is not that hard to take the crowd out at Ole Miss. LSU, BAMA, and FL are another thing. But it can be done. Everyone remembers the Michigan crowds over the last two years don’t we? What used to be one of the loudest crowds has been dead quiet recently. Amazing.

Summer Practice needs to hurry up and get here. I am ready to see how the incoming freshman and Juco players impact the depth chart and how this team has continued to grow and progress in their voluntary workouts.

    By blake on Jul 15, 2009 @ 10:52am

  168. The thing about it is, it’s still just 11 men versus 11 men.

and any team in this league can beat any other team on any given day.

we will have a chance in every game.

we will probably win at least one big game that we shouldn’t, and with our still young team we will probably lose a game that we shouldn’t.

we will have plenty of lumps this year but i think we’ll have to nice success, too.

blake you are dead on about august needing to hurry up and get here. it can’t get any hotter than it already is and i’m ready to see some practice.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 15, 2009 @ 10:59am

  170. Anybody know which players were not cleared?

    By Mike on Jul 15, 2009 @ 11:14am

  171. The SEC West is a tough division, but I’m not sure I’d put it ahead of the Big 12 South right now. There’s not a huge gap between the best team in the west and the worst. I believe we’ll be competitive this year andake our first BCS appearance next year. There aren’t going to be anymore 1 point victories over ulm and blowout losses to bammer. I’m still sticking with 7-5 mainly because the West will be way more competitive this year and I believe our defense is a year or half-year away.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 15, 2009 @ 11:20am

  172. Got the new EA Sports college football game last night. We got jipped. London Crawford isn’t on there. DJ Williams isn’t rated very high and there aren’t many freshmen on there.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 15, 2009 @ 11:23am

  173. MRP, finally something that makes sense and that we can agree on. Big 12 South with Tex and OU tough to beat. Top to bottom pretty much a draw though, might give slight edge to SEC West because of depth.

    By Ima Hawg on Jul 15, 2009 @ 11:31am

  174. MRPRFCT, Barrett Sallee said the following in the discussion #4:

“I think, and the answers from all of us above confirm, that the SEC West is WIDE open, and should provide the most exciting competition on a week-in, week-out basis”

    I gotta agree.

    By Mike on Jul 15, 2009 @ 11:39am

  175. I gave it to the Big 12 South based on having two teams in the BCS last year and more than likely having 3 teams in the top ten this year. They don’t have the depth that the West does though.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 15, 2009 @ 11:41am

  176. if you seeded the big 12 south and the secW:

the tope two seeds are going to be tx/ou & bama/lsu

that could almost be a wash but if i was a betting man i’d but both sec teams over the big12 teams almost any day of the week. it’s one of those things you really can’t measure because they will never play.

ok state prolly has an edge on OM/ark, maybe, maybe not.

even after that i’d take auburn over tx tech and miss state over baylor.

    secW still the best.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 15, 2009 @ 11:51am

  177. This year I’d take Oklahoma over lsu and texass over bammer. I’d take ole miss over ok state, Arkansas over Tex tech, Baylor over aubarn and A&M and miss state would play to a 0-0 25 OT tie

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 15, 2009 @ 11:59am

  178. OK lost too much oline.

tx will be the premier team in the big 12 this year.

i’m glad they aren’t on our sched.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 15, 2009 @ 12:10pm

  179. but i do find it hilarious that OU gets all its players from TX and yet OU is the thorn in tx’s side.

    By Razorback56 on Jul 15, 2009 @ 12:26pm

  180. So the new football game jipped the Hogs hu?

That’s not cool. Are our Sophmore WRs really good at least?

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 15, 2009 @ 2:04pm

  183. we will likely not be worth anything on the game until next season. they are programmers and not the greatest at predicting how players are going to do unless it is really obvious.

next year ought to have a good fun bobby petrino offense with lots of good skill people and a big back

    By Razorback56 on Jul 15, 2009 @ 2:05pm

  184. There’s only 3 RBs on there; Smith, Curtis, and Johnson.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 15, 2009 @ 2:12pm

  185. Do we have last year’s uniforms?

    By Razorback56 on Jul 15, 2009 @ 2:19pm

  186. I didn’t even look. I got home late, through it in the 360, looked over our roster, and played an exhibition game against texass. I won.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 15, 2009 @ 2:25pm

  187. Will Courtney Haskell attend the camp? Do u think Kiehl Frazier has a chance to jump Brandon Allen as the top Junior QB in the State at the camp? If Grant Gill shows he is fast/rangy enufe for an sec S/SS he might get an offer since Mathews is taking his time. With Braylon Mitchell’s commit Antonto Harding will have to have a great camp to get an offer.(imo) Brey Cook could be a 5* player next year hope we give him the 5* treatment. Hope we can get a commit from Cortney Gatson Looks just like What the staff is looking for 6 plus 200 plus 4.4-4.6

    By Big Boi on Jul 15, 2009 @ 3:34pm

  188. Ok huge mistake. Arkansas has Mallett, Wilson, and Youngblood at QB. Mallett’s rating is 88. At RB they have Smith, Green, Johnson, Curtis, and Davis. Smith’s rating is 91. At FB they Bailey. His rating is 61. At WR they have Crawford, Miller, Salters, Wright, Childs, Tucker, Fish, and Adams. Crawford and Miller’s rating is 87. At TE they have Williams Stumon, and Cleveland. Williams’ rating is 84. My bad on the earlier report. I’m not sure what I saw last night. I’ll post more later.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 15, 2009 @ 6:13pm

  189. Speaking of Bailey at FB, after Petrino and his staff commented on him after several sucsessful practices, and getting a glimpse of him during the spring game, I believe this kid could turn out to be quite the suprise this season.
I believe he has 4.5 speed, which is very good for a 5′11″, 230 lb. FB.
If he can block well, I think we’ll have a player.

    By GonzoHog on Jul 15, 2009 @ 6:47pm

  190. Gonzo, Bailey to me is one of the more intriguing players because he had maybe the best Spring game of all the backs and yet hard to see where he figures in. Might depend on whether Broderick Green is eligible. And then there is Stumon which really has the size advantage. But I’m telling you, Bailey ran for BIG chunks of yardage. He’s either that good or the defense is still that far behind.

    By Ima Hawg on Jul 15, 2009 @ 6:57pm

  191. I hope he’s that good, Ima Hawg, because if the D really is still that far behind, Broderick Green isn’t the RB I thought he was.
I remember the D slamming him for a loss on one play, and holding him for short gains on several others.
Maybe it just wasn’t his game to shine. Who knows?

    By GonzoHog on Jul 15, 2009 @ 8:04pm

  192. Thanks MRPRFCT for the update on the new game. Williams seems a little underrated by the way. Is the gameplay good? I heard that the stadiums are pretty accurate for each team also.

    By SOUTHARKHOGFAN on Jul 15, 2009 @ 8:43pm

  193. You’re welcome, SAHF. Williams is highly underrated. I’ll give a complete roster list including all the players’ ratings soon.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 16, 2009 @ 7:45am

  194. You Hog fans that are going to be at the Sat. camp get a good look at a recruit from Harmony, Tx. His name is Kolby Hogan and those of you with good memories will recall his dad (Floyd Hogan) played for the Hogs in 73-74.
He is 6′1″ 220 lb. all East Tex/ all state/ LB/FB and was the leading tackler in East Texas last year…has been chosen the pre-district most valuable defensive player in district (he will knock your block off!!!). He has sort of flown under the radar because he is from a small 2A school and hasn’t been pushed by anyone until this year; however, he is getting a lot of attention since his films have been sent out!
He played safety as a soph. and is the best blocking FB in the area. As a freshman, soph, or junior he has qualified for regional track in the 110 HH, the 300 HH, LJ, TJ, and PV… tried a decathlon this summer for kicks and scored 5,664 points although he had never thrown a shot, javalin, or discus or high jumped or run the 1,500.
In short he is a stud athlete…look for him!!!

    By Rob Robison on Jul 16, 2009 @ 5:13pm
