  1. Totally unrelated to Stephenson who I cant believe is not already in jail.

Everyone take a look at the new 2011 Scout Top75 list. The Hogs are actively on the list of a number of top players. Also 3 AR natives made the list of the top75 and Ross is already committed. Looks to me like Pel has some things going very very well!

  2. Stephenson seemed pretty straight up for the longest and even seemed pretty interested in the Hogs. But as his recruiting went on school after school seemed to back away when all the shady dealings started to show traces. I wonder if Cincy is worried about any trouble following them or if they dont care and just are interested in using him for the one and done.

    By blake on Jun 30, 2009 @ 5:10pm

  3. Personally, I think he just went to Cincy so he could be the star.
Look at the competition he’ll be playing against.
If his head doesn’t explode to the point of destroying the chemistry of the team, he’ll be a one and done player.
I also don’t believe he’ll shine that much as a Freshman. They have some pretty darn good defenses in the Big East.

  4. This is not about Lance Stephenson ,but CJ and Xaiver Henry. The article said that the CJ and Xaiver weren’t happy at Kansas, but really wanted to go to Kentucky and play for Coach Calipari. I think Kentucky has two places available. Wonder if these two young men will end up at Kentucky playing for Coach Calipari?

  5. Some of his “amatuer” business dealings are going to surface and get a bunch of folks some bad press. What do we have now? High School players with shoe contracts? That is what this sounds like.

  6. 2011 will be key to the rebirth of hawg bball, IMO. looks like we have an edge on Nobles runnin mate, Deville Smith. Plus A. Ross stayin firm on his commitment should attract some other major talent. To be honest, I’d like to get Hunter on the hill for 3-4 years. Hopefully we can retain all our scholarships cuz it looks like we’ll need all of them come 2011, and if we keep them i forsee a deep NCAA run.

What players of the Scout top 75 that have AR listed as an interest would everyone like to see in razorback red?

  7. I saw that Scout 2011 list this morning. We’ll have three spots open in 2011 and I think the three Arkansas boys on that list would fill those perfectly. We’ve got Ross, now we just need to work on Mickelson and Madden.

  8. the new rivals.com 2011 top 100 basketball prospects just came out and it has ky madden as a five star!it suprised me.

  9. I heard one of the coaches on the hill spouted off about Monk and it really upset Kye Madden. Hope that isn’t true.

  10. According to the Lexington Herald, Calipari is already recruiting for the future. Calipari was recruiting Perry Ellis, a 15 year old from Kansas last year while at Memphis and Perry’s mother stated Tuesday in a Kansas paper that Calipari called her son and wants him to come and play for him at Kentucky. Also it reported that Kansas was also actively recruiting Ellis. With some coaches recruiting some players at such early age maybe this is one of the reason why it leads coaches and asst. coaches to violate the NCAA rules on recruitment of very talented young athletes and therefore lead to bad press on themselves and their school. The bottom line for some of these coaches is to win at all cost no matter who may get hurt in the long run and what rules are broken along the way to achieve their goal of winning . I hope we will never have coaches like these at the U of A.

  11. Has ESPN already talked about Arkansas football in their 50 state tour thing?

    By Qwerty on Jul 1, 2009 @ 2:40pm

  12. Is it not a violation to offer a scholarship to kids below a certain grade? I thought I read somewhere that sophomores and lower could not even speak to ccollege coaches. I remember when one of the first 13 or 14 year olds made a commitment, it was clarified that he called the coach and said he wanted to play for him and the coach said “OK”- supposedly. It was pointed out the kid made the contact and that the coach did not initiate the scholarship offer. It sounds like Calipari and Kiffen are just throwing them out to every junior high all-star.

About the coach spouting off about Monk, I really hope that isn’t the case. He was great for our team and our university. I would also hate to lose his cousin. Madden would be an instant impact on the team. Calipari wasnted to set up a game in Little Rock between Memphis State and the Hogs starting in 2010. It was no coincidence that he tried to schedule it then to be in front of Arkansas’ best recruiting class in recent history.

  13. Qwerty, ESPN did it either last week or the week before. Show was about Arkansas and West Virginia .ESPN spent about 3 minutes or maybe 5 minutes about Arkansas and the rest of the 30 minutes show was about West Virginia.

    By becky on Jul 1, 2009 @ 10:52pm

  14. not west virginia but virginia and virginia tech.

    By shanep on Jul 2, 2009 @ 1:44am

  15. yeah, it was AR & VA.

Considering ESPN alloted 3 days to FL and i’m sure something in the same for AL (didn’t see the episode) they could surely of spent some more time on a state/program that has sure done its job of putting up classic performances and some made for TV story lines.

  16. The media hates Arkansas, have for a long time now.

    P.

    By Portie on Jul 3, 2009 @ 1:41am

  17. That’s just typical media for you. ESPN will go with the flow, and considering that Florida and Alabama are considered the two best programs in the best football conference in America, the perception is that their giving the football viewing audiance what they percieve as the best college football coverage.
If Bobby Petrino can elevate the UofA’s program to heights we’ve never seen before, it’s quite possible the Hogs may see that very same kind of coverage in the very near future.
I’m very hopeful, to say the least.

    By GonzoHog on Jul 3, 2009 @ 10:18am

  18. The media doesn’t hate Arkansas. Arkansas isn’t as popular and wasn’t very good last year. What do you expect? Did you really think espn was going to dedicate 30 minutes to a team many expect to go 6-6? Cmon guys seriously…

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 3, 2009 @ 1:31pm

  19. There’s a local sports show here in Atlanta in which one of the analysts hates Petrino with a passion. I’m going to send him a Petrino voo doo doll to help him manage his anger.

    By Mike on Jul 3, 2009 @ 2:43pm

  20. Even when Arkansas was winning and doing well in the 70s & 80s(yes I know the sports media wasn’t as big then and there was no internet) we still got only minor respect from them.

The only major media respect and coverage I can remember being mentioned alot or seeing myself that was in Ark’s favor is:
    ‘64 Ark/neb game football (Ark Nat’lChamp)
    ‘69 Ark/texass game football
    ‘78 Ark/zeroU football
    ‘94 Ark Nat’lChamp team basketball

that’s not much; there are some teams who get major respect & love from the media even if/when they only go 5-7. I guess said teams have big tradition, and we have none. [shrug]

Opinions vary on the subject, but the disrespect Arkansas gets as a state in general plays into this in my opinion.

    By Portie on Jul 3, 2009 @ 2:44pm

  21. True, but I wouldn’t say the media hates Arkansas. It’s more that they love a few teams and don’t care about Arkansas.

    By MRPRFCT on Jul 3, 2009 @ 3:44pm

  22. I dont believe the media hates Arkansas at all. All media goes for the headlines. If a team is good or very good, they will be headliners. It is that simple. If the Hogs come out next year and have a banner year…you will hear that Bobby Petrino is a genius…if a so so year…then he is a dunce. That is the nature of the beast. Remember, in the mainstream media, the slogan is: “If it bleeds, it leads…” so you could say that in the sports media it basically the same.

By hog fan in florida on Jul 3, 2009 @ 4:00pm

  23. Maybe the media doesnt hate Arkansas. But they dont show us any respect at all. The bashing we took from Pat Forde and ESPN was totally uncalled for. In my opinion they crossed the line of professional journalism. I lost all respect for them and when we start to win “and it will be soon” when they want interviews I would tell them, We dont do interviews with you !

    NEXT !

They beat it until it bleeds, so they can use it for a lead !

  27. one of the main ppl that bash/bashed ark is mark may from espn..look at how he talked when dmac was up for heisman, not one good thing about him. he was all about tebow

    By shanep on Jul 3, 2009 @ 4:42pm

  28. ive never heard him say one good word about ark

    By shanep on Jul 3, 2009 @ 4:43pm

  29. Maybe Mark didn’t have any confidence in or respect for the coaching at Arkansas. I certainly know I didn’t before last year.

  31. Bad news for Basketball team, according to television station 40/29 in Fayetteville, sport director Mark Lericos this afternoon reported that Stefan Welsh is being disciplined for an undisclosed reason. Welsh is not on campus for the 2nd term of summer school, but still a part of the team according to the athletic department officials confirmed. So I guess it all Coach Pelphrey fought, because a player would never do something to get discipline by their coach. To me it seem like someone or somebodies do not want the Hogs basketball to be successful. I’m going to starting praying every night for Coach Pelphrey and his basketball team. I think I will quit reading the sport section of any Arkansas papers and quit going online to arkansas razorbacks blog site until basketball season start in October, but I will pray for the coach and his team every night to get him and his team going in the right directions and praying if there are people out there trying to get him fire that they don’t succeed until he has time to prove himself.

  34. MRPRFCT,

I’ve been Camping & trottlining with my boys the last few days, so to answer your question about the coaching, the last time I had confidence in the coaching at the UofA was from 1977 to ‘83., somewhat confident from 1984 to ‘90, but since then, I’ve been mostly hopeful and/or cautious at best.
18 years is a long, long time to feel mostly disappointed and discouraged.
