Mail slows for Arkansas commitment Rainey
June 26, 2009 – 6:00 amOnce a recruit decides to orally commit to a school, others usually up their efforts in trying to sway the athlete their way. Offensive lineman Jordan Rainey, who committed to Arkansas recently, is relieved that’s not the case with him.
“The mail is starting to slow down a little bit,” Rainey said. “It’s quieted down, which is good for me. I can concentrate on football. I glad I got it out of the way and I’m going to Arkansas now. I’m happy about that. I’m not to concern about the other schools anymore.”
Rainey, 6-5, 305, 5.30 of Joplin, Missouri was receiving interest from Kansas State, Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Missouri and Oklahoma before he opted for the Hogs.
Rainey was glad to see his teammate, tight end/defensive end Brad Hefley jump on board last week and commit to the Razorbacks.
“I’m happy he went ahead and decided to go ahead and commit,” said Rainey, who reports a 385-pound bench press and 450 squat. “He went to Oklahoma for a one day camp. I think that was good for him and for him to see how he liked it. Obviously, I’m happy he’s coming so I can have a roommate and have someone I know.”
With his college decision out of the way, Rainey said he’s focused on the upcoming season by attending workouts at his school.
“We get there about 6:45 and go until 9:30,” he said. “We run for about an hour and we lift right after that. That’s Monday through Thursday. A couple of friends and I work out on the weekends so we don’t lose it.”

I’d feel better if Rainey’s recruitment by other schools was picking up rather than drying up. Not sure that’s a good sign.

Rainey and Hefley are two big boys. Hope they continue to work hard on their lifting and running. Sounds like Rainey has good work ethic for a big man. I knew a lot of big men that never wanted to work out.
