Phillips Update

January 30, 2009 – 1:45 am

Olive Branch, Miss., offensive lineman Aubrey Phillips (6-6, 322 5.1) appears to be down to Arkansas and Florida State for his college decision.

Florida State Coach Bobby Bowden was at Olive Branch high school for four hours on Thursday while  Arkansas sent  assistant coaches Mike Summers and Reggie Johnson  to visit with Phillips in the afternoon.

Phillips will likely choose between the Razorbacks and Seminoles on signing day.

Has BP visited with Phillips? If not, are there any plans to do so?

  4. RD,

I know you have seen it here a lot but THANK YOU for the knowledgeable, reliable, and expedient information. I am in SW LA and all I get is tigger talk.

  5. I too am a RD beleiver.
I would have never thought Phillips would seriously look at the Hogs based on what the so-called Vol recruiting experts have said over the past few weeks. I didn’t thinks Wingo would pick us, because of what “other” experts were saying. But now I hang on what Richard says.
    Great info you provide!

  6. RD,

What does Aubrey say about TENN? He told a reporter there was was 90% a vol. PLEASE help me know how that went from 90% to 0% so quickly. Thanks!

  7. Anyone know who the player that de-committed was? Rivals, which had us at 31 commits yesterday, now has us at 30…but wasn’t sure who it was they dropped. Even though they dropped someone, our “star average” actually went up though.

What can you tell me about Phillips visiting Auburn this weekend. In knoxvill they are reporting that his very good friend and HS teamate (a LB) was offered and accepted a scholarship from the Tigers. This same team mate is visiting this weekend also. It sounds like Auburn’s staff is really working hard. Does this change his top two?

  12. I do not see Auburn being a factor for Phillips.

  13. From ESPN- “Here’s another projection — current Tennessee commitment Aubrey Phillips will sign with Florida State on National Signing Day. Seminoles offensive line coach Rick Trickett has done an excellent job with the 6-foot-6, 310-pounder and it appears that Florida State is close to closing the deal.

Bobby Bowden visited Phillips at his school on Thursday and the big offensive lineman called it an “honor” to speak with the legendary head coach. He also told ESPN affiliate NoleInsider.com that he and Trickett were “real tight” and that the pair had a “real good relationship”. While he stopped short of saying he was switching his commitment, sources indicate it’s as close to being a done deal as you can get.”

Richard, do you think this is right?? They didn’t even mention us, but i have to believe that we are in the hunt. Thoughts??

  14. Update from an MSU poster on Rivals.com:

” … right now Aubrey is headed to FSU but he really..really wants to play DT in college and Ark will give him that shot…AU is not sure if they want him as a DT..so it it’s over yet…but it’s FSU,ARK,and AU…also he doesn’t have a firm offer right now from TN.”

He didn’t have great things to say about Aubrey as an Offensive Tackle. That was a bit surprising to me. Said that he had an Up and Down season.

He summed it up by saying the Phillips was a “very nice kid”. Hope we get him!
