Dyer gets number six
January 24, 2009 – 9:11 pmA source has indicated that Little Rock Christian junior running back Michael Dyer was offered a scholarship by Oklahoma today. The Sooners join Arkansas, Alabama, Ole Miss, Tulsa and Stanford in offering Dyer.
Dyer, 5-9, 200, 4.37 and teammate Dakota Mosley attended Oklahoma’s Junior Day earlier today.

This kid will most likely be the top rated prospect in Arkansas next year. BP needs to get Dyer locked up as soon as possible. The list of teams that will come trying to steal him away is going to be huge. Dyer is a must get.

He Will Be A Razorback. Just Whatch.
There is no way we can screw this one
up. But if he doesn’t come here than, Goodbye job security on the Hill.

I’ve seen him play he’s great, but even if we don’t land him, i’m pretty sure BP job is safe, i don’t know if we could get a better coach on the hill

Your right. I was making fun of all the drama and importance that is pushed on the recruits.
Life Goes On. No Matter What.

no worries about dyer as long as BP and co. are on the hill

I wouldn’t worry too much about the recruitment of Micheal Dyer just yet.
Bobby Petrino and his staff have already proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that their very well organized, and commited to bringing in some of the best talent around, to help turn this ship back in the right direction.
We all know that kids like Joe Adams, Tyler Wilson, Ryan Mallett, and Broderick Green, never even considered playing for the UofA with the old staff still intact.
In just one short year, BP and co. have already convinced those 4 kids to either stay or come back home. There’s no telling how many other bigtime recruits Petrino has swayed to the UofA lately, that wouldn’t have considered coming here if the old staff were still in place.
Being a 4 or 5 star recruit doesn’t alway’s mean automatic sucsess on the field, but more times than not, it usually does.
As long as BP is here, you bet your last dollar he’ll bring in top recruits on a regular basis. This is his first real class, consisting of only HIS recruits.
It’s only going to get better.
GO HOGS GO!!!!!
By GonzoHog on Jan 25, 2009 @ 7:57am
I agree Dyer is a must have for the Hogs. However, don’t be surprised or disheartened if he doesn’t committ right away. With the possiblity of him being a Top 10 recruit in his class, I would expect him to take every official visit, talk to every interested school, and gather all information to make an informed decision he can live with. He owes it to himself to go through that process. He’s earned that.
I just hope BP can get Dyer to come to the Hill on his last official visit.
In my opinion, it looks better for the Razorbacks to have someone with Dyer’s status, who could probably play anywhere; visit every school that’s drooling over him and then have him STILL pick the Hogs over everyone else. That says a lot about our program, even if he is an in-state recruit.
By Boston Hog on Jan 25, 2009 @ 9:51am
Hey, I agree Dyer is an excellent prospect and that he probably will probably be one of the highest rated RB’s coming in to next year’s class, but can we please stop drooling over him like the next Bo Jackson or Herchel Walker? I officiate high school football here in Arkansas and I’ve seen a lot of players, he is one of the best for next year!!! but he also could be a bust… Just think of the great backs to do well here in the state’s football programs only to not make it to college or to under-perform when you get there (ie. Vernon Hicks, Johnathon Adams – Osceola, Andre Akee – LR McClellan, Brandon Muldrew – LR Hall, Brian Jones – LR Cabot, Dedrick Poole – LR Central, just to name a few). Now granted Poole went on to UAPB and was a star, but many of these guys don’t cut the mustard when it comes to playing D1 ball. Hell if you really wanna be specific, Cedric Cobbs, yeah he had a solid freshman and senior year, but you’d be lying if you said that you did not expect more, possibly a Heisman, I did, and so did the rest of the state!
By D.j. Thames on Jan 25, 2009 @ 10:02am
Is it true that Dyer did not grow up in Arkansas? could be an issue if true.
By p lee on Jan 25, 2009 @ 10:05am
Michael has not committed to anyone. He’ll take some visits and will probably make his decision before the season starts.
By Richard Davenport on Jan 25, 2009 @ 10:08am
I have known him since the third grade, and as far as I know he has always lived in Arkansas…
By Razorhog on Jan 25, 2009 @ 10:58am
Thanks Razorhog. I think he will be offered by all the major programs. being an arkansas kid its gonna be hard to turn down the hogs. go hogs!
By p lee on Jan 25, 2009 @ 11:16am
I hate to say this, but the more bigtime RB recruits we sign now, the less tempting it may become for a recruit like Micheal Dyer to commit later.
Every highly ranked RB recruit in the country wants to be “the man”, so considering what we already have, and who we may still sign in this years recruiting class, don’t be suprised or disappointed if M.D. chooses to think the grass is greener for him at some other university.
That doesn’t nessesarily mean there’s a hole in the fence in the state of Arkansas.
That’s just the way it goes wherever you may be.
Hopefully, the grass will be greenest at the UofA.

Irish Eyes the Notre Dame blog quotes Dyers father that he wants Michael to go to ND.
By bigfoot on Jan 25, 2009
Well, sadly enough, this can’t be true because Michael’s father passed away. I’m not exactly sure how old Michael was but it’s been a few years. Also, in response to Michael not living in Arkansas all his life, well he has always lived in the central Arkansas area. He has never, ever committed to anyone, us or LSU. I think Michael ends up a Hog, just a feeling, nothing he has told me, but I do think he will enjoy the recruiting visits, his official visits and take his time during recruitment. Who can blame him?
By kmk on Jan 25, 2009 @ 12:40pm
With the hiring of Coach Petrino, we have moved beyond “Must Have” players. The one dimensional concept has moved to oxford.
Mr. Dyer would be a great get, especially if he announced at the first of the year to help with recruiting other top prospects. I think that our current staff knows how to sell the ability to polish a player for success at the next level well enough to close the deal.
WPS!

So if we have an amazing season this year, does anyone think a cotnact extension for BP will come soon afterwards? I think it should. Hopefully he wants to stay at Arkansas… Anyone know if he’s really happy at Arkansas and wants to stay?
By blu3tick on Jan 25, 2009 @ 1:41pm
Are all of our junior college players eligible this year? like Rudell Crim, Zhamal Thomas, or Broderick Green?
By Qwerty on Jan 25, 2009 @ 1:53pm
Qwerty:
Green is a transfer and not a JC player. As far as I know, his appeal to play in the Fall has not been adjudicated by the NCAA yet. At worst, he redshirts next year then has 2 years eligibility remaining.
By 73Hog on Jan 25, 2009 @ 2:17pm
But rudell crim and the others will be eligible?
By Qwerty on Jan 25, 2009 @ 2:25pm
73Hog,
Green has already redshirted at USC. He will have to sit out a year and lose a year of eligibility. He will have 2 years remaining.
Hopefully he will get the wiver from the NCAA.
By Ricky on Jan 25, 2009 @ 2:26pm
Qwerty:
Unless there is something wrong with their academics, I believe so.
By 73Hog on Jan 25, 2009 @ 2:26pm
Thx, Ricky.
By 73Hog on Jan 25, 2009 @ 2:27pm
Ricky:
ESPN lists Green as a Freshman last year after Redshirting in 2007, I believe. If he has to sit out, he loses his Soph year then has two left. Yes?
By 73Hog on Jan 25, 2009 @ 2:29pm
73Hog,
That sounds correct to me. I hope he gets the waiver because he would make an immediate impact.
By Ricky on Jan 25, 2009 @ 2:34pm
73Hog,
Actually, if Green has to sit out next season, he still has 3 years of eligibility left.
He already had one redshirt season at UCS, (his first) and played some as a redshirt Fresh. last season.
Weather it’s this coming season, or the following, Green will start out his playing days at the UofA as a Soph.
By GonzoHog on Jan 25, 2009 @ 2:39pm
No he will lose a year of eligibility. Unless he is granted a waiver he will have to sit out and lose his sophmore year.
By Ricky on Jan 25, 2009 @ 2:46pm
Did you guys forget about M. Mustain and D. Williams?
They were both True Fresh. when they transfered to USC. They sat out a year, then played as Sophmores last season.
By GonzoHog on Jan 25, 2009 @ 2:46pm
Yes they redshirted for one season. This past season they were reshirt sophmores. If they were to transfer again they would have to sit out a year and lose their junior year of eligibility, unless they transferred to a D2 school.
By Ricky on Jan 25, 2009 @ 2:49pm
I didn’t know that Ricky. So your saying since B. Green has already had one redshirt season, he’s not eligible to just sat out one more year without losing the eligibility that goes with it? Correct?
By GonzoHog on Jan 25, 2009 @ 2:55pm
Correct. That is the price he will have to pay to be a Razorback now. If the NCAA will grant him a waiver then he can play next season and will not lose a year of eligibility. I hope he gets it because we could really use him next year.
By Ricky on Jan 25, 2009 @ 3:00pm
when will we know if he can play or not?
By Qwerty on Jan 25, 2009 @ 3:07pm
GonzoHog… Ricky is correct on this one.
You have 5 years in which to play 4 years. You only get one redshirt year unless you are granted a medical redshirt which grants you 6 years to play 4. Unless there is something medically wrong with Green he will only have two years to play here.
By Hawgfan923 on Jan 25, 2009 @ 3:07pm
I’m still very glad to have him. Hopefully, the NCAA will see fit to grant him playing time this coming season.
I heard from the rumor mill that his Grandmother was ill, and that his mother was going through some marital problems.
I’m not exactly too sure how those issues will stack up with the NCAA committee making the decision on that case, but either way, I wish his family the best.
By GonzoHog on Jan 25, 2009 @ 3:23pm
Hawgfan – That’s still not totally right. If Green is granted his waiver he will be a RS Sophomore next year with 3 years to play three. If he is denied his waiver then he will sit out a year and have 2 years to play 2.
By Dan on Jan 25, 2009 @ 3:38pm
Zhamal Thomas, who signed with the Hogs in December and intended to enroll at semester will not be able do so due to falling short academically. He hopes to be able to enroll in the summer. Benjamin D’Aguliar also commited but fell short to and is going juco.
By shane on Jan 25, 2009 @ 3:57pm
dyer will not be discouaged by some competition. any major program that offers him will have the same situation. really we are just catching back up after the losses of dmac felix and hillis. major programs should have 4 to 6 high level backs. all the best do.
